about albino ball python
how much does albino cost i would like to know

Re: about albino ball python
It depends on a few factors. First, who you buy from. the well known breeders have higher prices. but that means you pay for a quality animal. Lesser known people will sell at or below "market price". right now, i'd say 06 hatchlings are probably around $1,200+
-
Re: about albino ball python
you can find em for $1,000, the '07 hachlings will be cheaper.
-
Re: about albino ball python
do you know what the reason if for them being cheaper in 07'?
-
Re: about albino ball python
Because for some crazy reason, people think they should be. Allow for supply and demand a little, the albino morph is awesome and desireable to amateur and advanced keepers alike...don't expect any pastel-ish price drops on that one!
-
Re: about albino ball python
i wouldnt bother purchasing one anyway a have a breeding het pair was just curious :)

Just because there are more available in '07 than there was in '06

Re: about albino ball python
I will have some next season for sale, I cant give a price now. But look me up then.

Just out of curiosity, do you actually have any albinos? Will you be producing any this year?
I've noticed that most people who give lowball advice on prices do it out of wishful thinking hoping that the price will actually drop that low so that they can justify spending that much for themselves.
I think a lot of the rapid price drops will slow down now that MKR is gone from the scene.

Re: about albino ball python
LOL!
I tend to agree with that, but I have seen some albinos personally for $1000.
I have some!!! :)

Re: about albino ball python
Pricing is mostly based on supply and demand, but it also matters on who you know and what kind of deals you get.
People can attempt to guess what prices will be, but it's merely a guess. If you want a better estimate, I'd ask "Will anyone have albinos this season? If so, do you have a price in mind yet?"
Albinos are recessive, not incomplete dominant, so I would not expect albinos to drop as fast as pastels/spiders/mojaves. Sometime you may see one go cheap because someone wants to dump it quick for one reason or another (not always good reasons either), but that doesn't make that price the current market value. If Joe sells a "MorphA" for $1000 just to dump it fast, but everyone is still paying $1500 everywhere else for a "MorphA", than $1500 would still be the value based on supply and demand.

Re: about albino ball python
i got my albino male last month for $1000 from $1500 becauase the seller was willing to "dump" it.
-
Re: about albino ball python
prices will vary alot from breeder to breeder. some breeders have low prices and poor service. some have higher prices and excellent service and will be there to help you out whenever! prices will also vary from snake to snake, if i had a spectacular example of a morph for sale, it wouldn't be at the lowest price. :D
personally, i'm willing to pay more for better service and peace of mind.
support breeders who support you and your goals!

Re: about albino ball python
When I was shopping around for my Albino this past year end, I was quoted on average $1200-$1500 from most sellers online for a baby Albino ball python. I spoke to a few breeders on the phone that spent more time trying to sell me on the ball python business than the actual Albino I wanted as a pet. Those were the few good ones that actually responded to emails and phone calls! A few actually refused to send pictures or became upset when I asked too many questions!
Thankfully I kept searching and luckily managed to get hooked up with a local breeder. I was able to pick up my Albino for $750 when I bought my Spider for $700. No sales pitch, no negotiating, no hassle, even had a few to choose from at the time. I would’ve been happy paying $1200 for the Albino alone, and it was in fact what I expected to pay based on the prices I was being quoted and viewed on certain classified ads.
Based on this experience, I don’t feel a higher price is any guarantee of a higher quality snake or a guarantee of getting better customer service. I agree with Rick, I also feel based on this buying experience that price has more to do with who you know rather than what you know. If you ask me, that’s somewhat unfair to those of us new to this hobby. If I had paid $1500 and found out a week later I could’ve picked up one for 1/2 that price or even $500 less, I would be kicking myself for weeks feeling like a sucker.

Thats an incredibly good price. Many years ago I started out with a bunch of possible het females and later added a het male. I produced a couple of albinos in '04 and a couple more in '06, I hope to produce some more this year as well. While I didn't spend a great deal of money on my possible hets, with all the time I've put into producing those albinos, I can't even imagine selling them that low. On the other hand, I'm in a position where I don't HAVE to sell any at all. I guess if I don't get my asking price, I'll just have more to keep for myself. And thats not such a bad thing.

No I don't. I will be producing some eventually here. I say $1,000 because you can go on kingsnake classifieds right now and find some for that price.

I was under the impression that sites such as Kingsnake classifieds were a guideline for shoppers. I've since learned these prices are negotiable 90% of the time, is this not right? Some guy selling Albinos for $1200, may take $1000. Some guy selling at $1000, may take $850. Is this the same for shows?
Forgive my being green here, but how do breeders know where to price snakes each year and adjust for high sales or slow slumps? How can one estimate Albinos for $1000 this year? What if in June Kingsnake has Albinos being offered between $1000-$800 and some selling for as low as $600 privately?

Everything is negoitiable! Typically the last day of a show is the best time to negotiate. However it is also the worst time for selection. everything is pretty picked over. It all depends on the motivation of the seller. Some are willing to drop, others are just testing the waters. They may not really want to sell a snake, but would for the right price.
The point of it is ... if you dont ask for less....you wont get it. but if you do, you will ussually get something. The more motivated your seller....the more likely hood of success.
Keep in mind...PEOPLE ARE ESTIMATING the price based on their experience. I am sure no one here can predict the future....so people are stating price based on past years and experience of the market.
Good luck!

Re: about albino ball python
I just can't get over how just because a few desperate sellers dump snakes for 50% or more below the previous asking price, everyone else selling the animals automatically assume that price is the new "market price."
The people desperate for sales are the ones that jumped into all of this looking to make quick money. They invested X amount 2-3 years ago and are itching for a return on that.
Also keep in mind that the more you discuss dropping prices or brag about the great deals you get in public, the value of the animals in the minds of most people decrease, and you are essentially chipping away bit by bit on the potential return you could see from your own investment.
In any event, I hate these ball market threads. I have such a great time and have met some really awesome people with this hobby and constantly being exposed to stuff like this really takes some of the fun out of it.

Better than a false sense of the market, just what people "want" the market to be.

If a breeder feels that the animal they are selling is worth $XXXX.XX to them, then they have every right to price the animal as such. There is no "false sense" of anything.

I want an albino... That's all I have to say here... lol

I think there is a bit of a false sense of the market. Prices vary so much yet everyone advertises about the same price. I'm still pretty new to this, so take it for whats its worth. I just enjoy owning snakes, so what do I know.

Re: about albino ball python
i would pay more if lets' say the parents were from africa etc, that type of thing, i don't mind paying more for a quality animal, i'm not really a fan with heavy inbreeding, and some breeders just might rely on those techniques
