Nice. Checkered garters are such pretty snakes. Having been musked though, I have no desire to keep one :P

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
The good reptile store we go to regularly has these in stock - they are so freaking hot!! I love their wild "Easter" colors...=)

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
The hottest thing about them is when they drop a large litter of little white worms, They will start feeding on rodents right away. all my adults eat rats. :)

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
My man had garters when he was younger (for like 10 years) and is thinking about getting another one.
I'll have to look into the differnet types as I've never had one.

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
That is a really nice snake. I used to think that Garters were boring but from reading on the net I have noticed some really nice patterns and some morphs that look really nice. I just wish it was not illegal to keep them here since they are a native species. :(

Nice Garter!
I remember my first snake I ever had was a garter snake I caught in my back yard. I kept him for a year and then let him go the next summer. Surprisingly he never bit me even though he was from the wild.

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
She is awesome!! Don't the albinos come from the plains of Iowa and Nebraska? We have some nice garters that look a lot like the albinos in everything but the colors.

Those garters are sweet! How are they for handling? Also you can set them up in a naturalistic vivarium, right?

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.

Re: Albino Checkered Garter Snake.
Babies dont like alot of handling, but adults are calm if handled now and then. best thing about them is they will eat a wide range of foods. :)
Drop large litters of live babies!

lol I did the same. Most garters in the wild will live off of mostly inverts but rodents make a more complete diet than insects. Its recomended that you get them on rodents as soon as you can.:carrot:

lol I bet thats a mess. I know of someone that started them on pygmy mice which are a lot smaller than domestic mice and even tiny garters can usually take them with no problems
