    True or False?
I was telling someone online about how I'm going to get a pastel BP next year when the 07 babies hatch. Said person snipped back and said "Don't waste your money they are only bright and pretty when they are babies. They loose their color when they get older, unless you keep breeding them then their color stays a bit".

I've never heard such a thing.
Sooo to all of you people who have "old" pastel's, do their colors "dull" out over time?

I think pastels brown out over time. However, i do believe lemons and blondes keep the yellow for much longer

Some pastels do brown out. I have 3 pastels, and two are still bright, while the third has dulled "some". She is still very pastel-ly.
Sounds to me like that person was crying sour grapes to me. You enjoy your pastels!

some do loose their color. How ever Lemons and vanilla pastels tend to keep their color very well.

ALL ball pythons get darker as they get older ... this is an undeniable fact ... BUT, even a pastel that "browns out" still looks completely different than your average dark brown and black normal ball ... and it's genetically reproducible!!!

Don't waste your money my butt ... if someone doesn't like pastels, fine ... don't buy one ... but if you love the way pastels look, buy the best one you can find from a good bloodline that is known for the best looking adults and hope you do well ... here's a good example of where there is a huge difference between buying from a good breeder and some idiot at a show ... a good breeder (like RDR, NERD, PKR, etc) will work with you to make sure your buying an animal that you will love! :sweeet:

Buy a pastel with as little orange wash on the sides as possible and you run a good chance of it holding it's color.

The orange wash browns out as they get older.

Sorry maybe I'm mis-reading that but they were trying to tell you that if the snake is actively breeding a lot this would somehow affect whether it browns out or not???? Can't say I've ever heard that theory.

Be real picky when selecting a baby pastel, and remember that pretty orange baby will turn brown. :) https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil...lemonmale2.JPG

Sean at EBN was kind enough to show me what you get when you breed a vanilla to a lemon pastel. Blows a normal pastel or Vanilla out of the water. I couldn't talk him out of that one or the pied he had that just had color on it head.. LOL he was being stingy.. LOL

With Pastels, I look for a lot of blushing, personally. I know that it is not going anywhere; colors may fade, browns may emerge, but blushing's here to stay.

I may be mistaken, but perhaps they were talking about selective breeding only the lightest, prettiest ones.
