Do you name your BPs?
I know that many big breeders probably don't, out of sheer exhaustion maybe, but do you? All of mine have names, and I think I plan on naming all future ones I get..
It is pretty different from the worlds of horse and dog breeding, where the animals have registered names.. that would be something to look into!

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Every last one of mine has a name except the hatchling PHet pied *I* hatched out

all my animals have names... not only first, but middle and last

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Every pet in our house has a name. Even when we have an extra rat or mouse from feeding it's put in a cage treated like a king until next feeding day. We tend to call them things like "left-overs" or "slinky's dinner" tho crude but it lets our kids know that yes it will be fed off.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
yea
but sometimes it's somethig that sticks when you can't think of a name .... had a cat named Kitty, couldn't think of a name so we called him kitty & it stuck
I call everything buddy or missy (if I know it's a girl) .... my male snake will probably end up being named buddy

Re: Do you name your BPs?
It doesn't matter what you name them, they don't come when you call.:D
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of my snakes have a name.. however only a couple of my inverts do, and even three of my birds don't have names.. lol.
I love naming the snakes though.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Mine are all named. The bp's after tv evangalists[HA HA!!!] and others are named for whatever fits them. The carpet is just"Carpet" or s***head, depending on how many strikes when I handle him.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yup, all of mine are named - even have my breeders calling them by their names too while they're with them. Justin didn't say "your het clown male is doing fine" but rather "Oliver's doing great!" and same with Adam regarding my lemon pastel - he calls him Winston too! Probably both of their only named snakes in their collections while they're there (although Adam's son's snakes are named, I believe! LOL).

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Guess I'm an odd person here...only ever named my first ball and it was a stupid name "Hiss". I've never named any of the others they are generally referred to as what they are like "the het albino female" or "the other big female" LOL I guess that will only work so long before confusion sets in...or has it already...

Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of mine are named and when I cant think of anymore names my 5yr old steps in and helps out. Thats how we ended up with a hairless rat named Ratt and a female ball named cupcake. :D
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Absolutely! I racked my brain for nearly a week, no less, trying to come up with Siliast's name. I could care less if he doesn't come when I call for him. My roommate was like, ">:( What's his name, Lauren, good God, name him!"
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of my snakes get names, although it may take a while.
The leo hatchlings are named but it's leo_hatchling_02_2006 that sort of thing.
When I decide which one or two to hold back, they will get a real name.
The inverts do not all have names though.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
I don't have a ball python, but every animal that lives at my house has a name, down to every last fish. I will go crazy for days and sometimes weeks trying to think of a name for an animal and once one comes along, it sticks. If I ever do get a ball, it will definatly have a name.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Shoot we're working our way thru the irish galic names right now then move onto the scots galic I think lol but yes everyone of them is named and we will continue to name all the snakes we more then likely will keep naming all the breeding rats to.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yeah I took Reggie from Python regius. Just changed the spelling for the vets sake. :carrot:
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Pretty much everything I own is named. My snakes, fish, cats, TV, Car, game systems, my christmas tree has a name...the bulbs don't though.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yep, we name all our animals, too. Sometimes I forget or mix the rats up, though.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yep! All of the animals are named, with the exception of some tarantulas that I haven't had for awhile or they are | | this big. The oranda goldfish doesn't have a name yet, and the 3 others in the tank aren't named. I need to name around 4-5 snakes though, and it's difficult!
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Alpine, Skittle, Lucy, Cleopatra, Raggidy Anne(don't ask, my girlfriend named her)
I have 2 more coming in, no names yet

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yep we name ours. As the collection gets bigger it is more challenging though. We've moved toward a type of name classification system. For example, all the albinos and het albinos are named after members of my husbands family, my het clowns are named Bozo and Clarabell, my pieds are mythology names (Hera, Aphrodite, etc.), normals are herbs and spices (parsley, sage, rosemary, etc), etc.
It sure does help when I'm trying to remember what a normal looking ball python really is! :carrot:

Re: Do you name your BPs?
absolutely. sometimes it takes a while but they all get names. i haven't named my poss. het pied hatchlings yet or a few of my other newer snakes but sooner or later they will all get names. the geckos mostly have names too--i name all but the ones i plan to sell. breeder rats get names and some of the fish have names too. :)

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Heck I'm so into naming the critters I have lists of names not yet used that I've seen, liked and stored away for future purchases LOL. The naming system for the snakes as Mike said is all irish or scots gaelic names. They are fun, some of them are hard as heck to pronounce and even harder to spell but each is picked based on something unique about the snake or its situation. The breeder rats get named based on their personalities, colors or coat patterns.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
I name all mine as well. 04-nf-01, 04-nf-02, 04-nf-03, ect ect. They even get their own labels.
lol. Sorry couldn't resist

Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of my pets have names except the fish. All of the names are human names also, so if anyone overhears me talking to any of them, they think there is another human in the room..lol
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
I only name my first and my spider. Odin came with his name and the Male spider is "Peter Parker"
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
All like, 20 of em - it gets difficult after a while! When it comes down to it, even though most of them are breeders/breeders to be, they are all my babies, too!

Re: Do you name your BPs?
we have a lot of our critters named. all our snakes and tarantulas, birds have names. our anoles, frogs and many of the fish do not.
some fish... who have real personality do have names though. ;) we have over 200+ fish... so it would be a little hard to name and remember their names :P

Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of mine have names except my pleco fish.
The Snakes are
Houdini - Used to be an excellent escape artist but not anymore hehe
Icecube- Cause she was almost frozen when I rescued her. Her previous owner threw her in a pillow case, strapped her to his bicycle and road across town in 30 degree weather to drop her off at petco. I then rescued her.
The Geckos are
Bonnie and Clyde, Clyde turned out to be female and kept the name Clyde. It fits her whole demeanor.
The Fish are
Bruce - Red Betta I wont say what Hubby calls him but to our son his name is Bruce
The African Dwarf Frogs are
Little Shaun after my husband Shaun They both have missing limbs lol
The other three frogs I can't pronounce their names due to the fact that my 2 year old daughter named them, I still don't know what their names are but they have them according to her.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Hi,
I always named all my pets so far - even if it was only a rude word they made me shout. At the moment I have;
Royal pythons;
Cleopatra - well we all have one, my first ( and still fave :wuv: )
Salome - my "big" girl , originaly named sal cos I thought it was a boy
Herman - named by my boss ( ryming slang - herman boring) . He has the sweetest nature but seems functionally retarded even by snake standards.
Natasha - tight ,bright and recently full of s*ite. occasionally thinks I'm lunch.
hatchlings - "ooo" , "goo" and "2dice"
corn snakes;
[jedi mind trick]
Amy - amelanistic female ( move along nothing to mock here)
Sid - normal male ,hissing sid  ( this is not the idiot your looking for)
[/jedi mind trick]
house snake - housie, it was that or weebs ( wee broon snake)
tarantula;
Afka - named for a friend of mine who is also a beautifull female with legs that just won't quit.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
All of my 5 cats, 3 dogs, 11 parrots, rabbit, chinchilla, tortiose, 3 scorpions, 2 snakes, and 32 tarantulas have names, and I can reel them off at any time. My pets are my children, and I can't imagine anyone having to many human children to name them.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
I name my snakes in order to make it easier to differentiate. Each slot in the rack has the name of the snake i that tub on it; or else I actually forget and have to open up every drawer until I find who I am looking for! it also helps when Mark and I discuss them: "Ginger needs a rat tomorrow" or "LaVey is in shed."
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
I always look up names for my pets. I like to give them names with meanings. For instance, my BP is named "Altaïr" which is Arabic for "swift one," which suits him. :) I like to name pets because a name is the most personal thign about you. You ARE your name.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Yeah me too.. most of my animals have names with meanings that suit them.
Kamau my normal ball's name is African and it means 'quiet warrior'.
-
Re: Do you name your BPs?
Everyboby's got names here. I pick names that go with morph or type sometimes. All my albinos and hets have A names like Athena, Aldo, Albert, Ally except Xena (she's just a friggin big moma). Greta the granite, Kaspa the ghost, Raquel the reduced, Nina the nerd pastel,Blondie the blonde pastel. Some get names for personality and type like Grace, she is always gonna strike, the Graziani. And others get names that sound cool Zues, Ceasar, Izzy. Haven't come up with 2 names for my 2 cinnys. Sugar, Spice aren't holding up well. Any one got any good ideas? I see a new thread perhaps with pics?

Re: Do you name your BPs?
How about Zeylan and ceylon ?
from here;
http://www.dictionary.net/cinnamon
Or zanzibar - always liked the sound of that but you need an animal with real gravitas to wear it I think.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Since I only have one, yes, his name is Dax. I do, however, have 40 taratulas and they all have names, and names that I put thought into. For example, my little P. ornata is named Dulari, that means the dear one in India, where she is from. My Christmas baby is named Noelle, and my pair of B. emilias are George and Gracie. Baby naming sites are wonderful things!!!!!

Re: Do you name your BPs?
I like how you named your bp a foreign word, Altair, Sausage. It gives it alot more personallity because you don't already think of something when you hear that word.
I name the mice too. Herman or Hermona the I, II, III, IV, V ect. =-P
I also like the idea of letting the mouse live in luxury for the last days of its life.

Re: Do you name your BPs?
Hell, I've named animals I don't even have yet. It's part of the fun! ;)
