how long do you quarantine for?

    11. What is quarantine? Is it really necessary?

Quarantine involves separating new reptile additions from your established collection for a set period of time to assure it is completely healthy before it comes in contact with any of your other animals. Quarantines range from 1-3 months or more. If at all possible keep quarantines in a separate room (or better yet, building) from your established collection. Handle established animals first, and wash your hand thoroughly with antibacterial soap after handling a quarantine. Use separate tools (hooks, spray bottles thermometers etc) for quarantines.
So... how long do each of you actually quarantine for? I've always done 2 weeks... but now I read it's actually 1-3 months! Since my snakes are going to be coming from Adam soon... I need to create a rack for them to quarantine...

How long do you do it for?

Depends on the snake and who it come from.I at least quarantine them 2 to 4 months. Not saying anything might be wrong with Adams snakes and i am sure he will agree EVERY snake needs to be quarantined.

why 6-12 months? what is going to show up in 6-12 months that won't show up sooner???

how long does RI take to show symptoms? cause isn't that really what we are quarantining for? personally i use P.A.M. (provent a mite) in every enclosure when i bring a new snake into the house... so quarantining for mites would be a moot point.

It depends on the incubation period of whatever bacteria/virus/illness/whatever.

90 days here too. Although, that would be assuming that I was allowed to bring anymore snakes into my house. I gotta work on that.... maybe after Christmas.

I've always been told at least a month because certain ailments take at most that long to show themselves. (That is only information I have heard)

1-3 months depending on the snake and it's origin.

On snakes I acquired from random people with little to no feedback, 3 months. For ones that come from respectable breeders, 1-2 months.

I wish. I do have my kids trained to tell him they want to get me more snakes. My daughter makes dandelion wishes about it all the time. It's so sweet. I know I don't have an actual snowball's chance of getting if for Christmas, as I have to wear the hubby down and work out a trade. ;)

Re: how long do you quarantine for?
I already made a short post to address yours... From what my vet has told me, some bacteria/viruses/ilnesses have long incubation periods... It can take months for an animal to show signs of whatever it is that it has.
