New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
I picked this up from Target the other day thinking it could make an affordable little rack system. Unlike other Drawer Cart models, each tub has its own snap tight lid.

I was thinking about trying out some 11" flexwatt down the back and see how that goes.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
what's the dimensions of each of those? and what are you going to house in them?
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
12 1/2" x 14" x 2 1/2"
My primary consideration was young Balls.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
is 2.5" high enough? I dont even know if you could get a wterbowl low enough, or a hide?

Gook luck pal :gj:
You could improve the effectiveness of the tape if you cover the sides and back with insulated foam board.

Yeah, I was thinking to at least cover the back. Still have to order some flexwatt... you should hook me up with a good link where I can buy by the foot with the cord installed somewhere it won't take forever to ship... :)

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
when i bought dexter his little drawer wasn't very big at all... so i figure 2.5" would be fine...
rich sells and ships flexwatt quickly. his link is at the top of this site.

I think you will totally have to cover the sides too to ensure proper insulation. It will be cake to do :D
How tall is that thing?

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
~23 1/2"
I went to Reptilebasics but didn't really understand how to order the flexwatt in the quantity I want...
Hey Cue, if I do back heat, should I overlap a bit under the bottom tub?
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
Oh yeah thanks for that link
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
is the back of that unit totally enclosed? if not something like this might work: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=26752.

Nah..it will be ok. Just set the rack on a slab of that insulation foam board.
If RB does not have what you desire hit me up and I will whip up a wired section and send it your way. Do you already have a thermostat?
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
Here's the back:

Not enclosed but seems to me like a good candidate for back heat with the added foam board.
Cue, where do I get that? No thermostat yet, I'll have to work on getting another Helix. I am sure it will be sometime after Christmas... hopefully someone out there got me what I asked for, money. :P

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model

Yeah I love my Helix... it is controlling 4" flexwatt at the moment though. :(

Whoops  You can get the foam board at Home Depot or Lowes. It has a R value rating of 9 and 1/2" thick available in 4x8' sheets. You can trim to size with a razor blade and attach to your rack with aluminum ducting tape.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
This looks like an awesome idea for hatchlings.. I hope that they are available near me.. hope to hear how it worked out for you.
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
Well, the first stage of converting these drawers into a hatchling/juvie rack has been made... I ordered another Helix from Reptile Basics. :)
Next will be the foam board, and then some pestering of the Cueball for wired flexwatt.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model

I've read a lot of not so great customer service reviews from them lately.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
Like waiting months for your products.
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
It was probably when he was getting married and on his honeymoon, he said it would take along time then. He told me that my Flexiwatt could get hear in 3 days max.:D

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model

Most of the horror stories I heard were from back ordered products that were still promised to be delivered.

I think the 11" flexwatt for back heat would be more practical and efficient.

-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model

Maybe Rapture will pop up with a comment.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
Nope, never got this set up... I won't mention any names but I still haven't gotten the supplies for it! Hahahaha...
Anyway I'm not sure if this will ever get done or if I'm just going to give it to someone who needs it for what it is made for. I found a problem with the tub height... you can't really get any normal water bowls to work in it.

Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
NICE! is there a problem with there being a gap in the shelf when it is closed? i noticed about a 1.5" gap when the drawers were closed in the one i wanted at walmart. this ok?
-
Re: New Sterilite Drawer Cart Model
No its not, These have indidivual locking lids, escape proof.
Target is the only store with these.
