Can't really be someone that knows me all that well since the people that do know me, know that I feed f/t to the ones that will take f/t and well live to the ones who don't.... I guess everyone else here who has and does feed live should be getting neg points too? One of the many reasons why I love this community, people don't really jump down your throat about how you feed.

I think the feedback system should really require the username of the person who left it. What good is a feedback system without a name attached in the first place? When someone says "Jack is bad" or "Jill is good" I personally like to know who is making the statement so I may consider the source.

If I read in a tabloid that "the sky is falling, the sky is falling! We're going to die.." I just laugh and continue on. If I read in a respectable newspaper that we may have a serious meteor shower and my state may get impacted by debris, I will take that a bit more serious. It all depends on the source.

    Rick

If the person giving you negative rep doesn't sign their name, do you really care what they think? It's likely that you'd class them in the tabloid group anyway.

I really hope that no one takes the rep system so seriously that you feel personally attacked by a neg rep hit. No one is going to agree with you all the time, and sometimes you might take a hit or two. This system is supposed to give a general idea of a person's behaviour on the forum. It's not infallible, but we try to make it as fair as possible.

It would only lead to more hostile and confrontational behavior which we like to avoid at Bp.net. If anyone feels that they received an unfair negative hit on their rep, all they have to do is contact a staff and it may be rectified...simple as that. :)

I can understand that, but if the user posting feedback knew their name was going to be tagged to the feedback they left, perhaps only people who honostly felt feedback was required, would do so. Either way, it's just my 2 cents. It doesn't matter personally to me one way or the other. If someone doesn't post a name to a feedback, I know they are the type to talk behind someones back or mumble while walking away instead of just walking up to a person and saying "Hey, I think we have a problem. Let's resolve it".

Curiously what is the rep system for? By and large it does seem to be more of a popularity contest at times. People get positive points for saying something funny or being witty.

The rep system is in place to help aid new members to gauge the information given to them. It also works to allow the members to place troublemakers in moderation if there is no staff present. Plus, it works as a reward system for those who participate on a long term basis.

No rep system is perfect, but there are limits put in place so you can not just keep giving rep to the same person repeatedly. You must give rep to many others before you can dole it out to them again. Plus you are restricted by the amount of rep you can give in a 24 hour period.

Yes, sometimes rep is given out for a post that is particularly funny but it's also given out to well thought out posts. It's really just a system that is as good as you make it.

Sometimes I think a post is wonderful but I forget about the rep or don't have the time to remember to reward that person. This is a great community and all of it's members are valued and appreciated. (even if you don't have many feedback points)

see the little white weight scales at the bottom of their post? well you click on it and a window opens up... giving you the option of a negative or positive rep point.

;) if you "hover" over the green square under the location... it tells you how much reputation someone has. "___is welcome around here" "____ should think before posting" etc.

    hope that helps,

    and to add:

personally i love the reptutation point system. it's nice to get a little pat on the back from other members letting me know they appreciated one of my posts. it also serves as a reminder to me to "play and say nicely" - if i know being snotty will get my posts moderated (from many neg reputation points).

A reputation system will never be perfect for everyone. Personally I hate it and wish I had the option not to participate.

For example someone may not agree with what I just said and negative rep me for it. Then I come back and complain (no I won't) and a bunch of people "on my side" (LOL...right) will will give me bogus positive reps for a few days to "bump me back up". It happens all time, maybe not as much here but it does happen....what's the point.

    Re: Reputation System.
I think if the rep system is used correctly it can be useful, but when someone can just leave you a negative feedback because you say that your favorite color is blue and they think blue is a horrible color, it's being used incorrectly. Feedback should be given based on how well or poorly someone contributes to the site and not on differences of opinion.

I feel that letting people leave anonymous posts makes people feel more secure to hide behind a screen and leave negative feedback that they wouldn't leave if their name was attached.

If someone has reason to leave negative feedback, by all means.. do so, but if you don't feel it's a legit enough complaint to attach your name.. than think twice before submitting it.

I just feel that without a requirement for a name to be attached, there is little use for it. I have seen many posts on here with people complaining about anonymous feedback. Personally I am not complaining, but it just seems if members of this site do complain, maybe the system should be modified, or perhaps allow members to 'opt-out' if they prefer.

IMO, the rep system has worked quite well here largely due to the fact that most users on this site don't abuse it. It's been my experience that you aren't likely to be nailed for petty dissenting opinions - i.e "blue rules" vs. "blue sucks" or something equally silly/not-exactly-relevant to the purpose of the rep system.

In a nutshell, if you make an effort (and it's not hard) to positively contribute to this site, your reputation points will take care of themselves.

cookies for everyone!!! (except joe :P )

i agree kara. i've had one negative rep point... but if i was receiving a lot of negative reps... i would start looking at how i'm saying what i'm saying and begin to say it differently so that people would not be stressed/upset and annoyed with my posts.

cause i'm not here to upset people or cause problems... i'm here to learn, share, smile and laugh. ;)

While I completely support the proper use of a rep system in the end if anyone uses it as the only way to judge someone, well that's taking a big shortcut. I myself have a high good rep count, fine and dandy, I tend to post a lot and hopefully am helpful where I can be but in the end it doesn't mean all that much. Lots of good points or not, people should still judge me or anyone else by the quality of posts, the common sense of them, and in the end how that is balanced and validated elsewhere. In other words, if I say that this or that is a good idea, don't take my word (or anyone else's)...do your own research, validate this as solid advice by verifying it elsewhere, be a proactive keeper who questions everything for the best outcome for your snake and you. :)
