    What gender are you?
In so many areas of the internet (and computer use in general), males have long outnumbered females. One of the things I notice here is that there are far more active female members than in other areas (non-herp) that I frequent.

So I'm curious about the gender ratios on this board, particularly considering how often I've heard "Whoa...you're a girl who likes snakes?".

Along these lines, its kinda cool to see the evolution of gender roles. One of the schools I work at (career tech center) has all kinds of trades programs. I haven't really seen any of the classes that are stereotypical gender wise.

I was going to name specific programs like automotive technology and compare how their are both males and females in the program just like any of the others...but then I realized that I would sound like I was stereotyping :P

I belong to other forums and for some reasons every time I answer a herp related post people assume I am a man (since on other forums I don't put m name). Looks like a lot of people still think that if you are a woman you are afraid of snakes

Females tend to outnumber males on all of my equine boards as well as my dog obedience/agility boards.

Male. I have to admit, when I look at posts with names that are not gender specific, I often catch myself assuming the poster is a male, no matter what board I am on.

I think it's cool that "trans" was an option. It can be very difficult for trans or intersexed people because our society is so used to a 2 gender system.

Gah wish I was still classed as a "babe" LOL. I passed that strange and invisible line where I'm now a "ma'am" sometime around 40. Female here and happy to see how evenly split this place generally is. We have a lovely mix of genders, ages, countries of origin....really makes this a wonderful place doesn't it. :)

I'm still ticked off at the young guy at a local pet store who wouldn't remove a BP for me to examine because "girls scream at snakes"...doofus!

Wish I still had the big BCI. I'd walk in with that 7 footer and say..."no dear THIS is a snake! you wanna scream now?" (not that I would ever expose any of my snakes to that dirty pet store but oh it's a tempting fantasy LOL)

:sabduel: ha..ha... female. I'm no longer surprised by the reaction I get from people when they find out that I like snakes or reptiles period. Although sometimes I still scream when I see certain snakes but thats usually followed by  ooo..can I hold it :8: :D gets'em everytime.

    Yeah....I said gets'em :P .

People act freaky enough when they find out how many snakes we live with. Then I really get them when I mention the 60+ rats that live in the spare room. :D

I have guy friends who won't come in my house or room. A few days ago one of my friends named Will asked me how many snakes I have and I told him and the look on his face was just priceless and he said "OMG thats crazy!"

    oh i love that!

people freak when i tell them i have snakes and then they get even more creeped out when i tell them that i keep them in my bedroom. it's the only room in the house with a door that locks so i can keep the dogs out. i foster animals. and usually in the spring it gets to be quite a zoo....puppies everywhere.
my neighbors must think we're breeding them and selling them or something. everytime they see us we have a different dog.

and the mail room staff at work are worried everytime i get an overnight FedEx package...i give them fair warning. dont open the box!

LOL! That's awsome! Unfornatelly, none of my friends are suprised! Most are animal people to one degree or another! I can make one of my friends cry in like, .2 seconds.... She has pet Ratties... and Ferretts... (Mamal person)..

So a few months ago, we were in a hurry to get somewhere, and I told her, follow me... I need to feed in here then we can go! So, she's talking 90 to nothing, and I'm "listening"... really sizeing up a mouses girth for one of the snakes...
And she's talking, and I'm opening a lid, and she's talking, and I' SMACK the mouse on the table, complete QUIET... (I gotta pre-stun for some of mine)

So I look up.. and she looks like she's should be in a B rated Horror flick! :O Then the tears! I ALMOST felt bad! She had this look, like how could I be your friend!?!?

So, now... All I haft to do is say, example: "Hey, to close that door you gotta smack it like a rat"!!!

    INSTANT TEARS!

Some names are a bit confusing sometimes.

I'm still amused that when I first started chatting on a spider chat a few of the ppl thought I was a gay guy.

I'm quite female. Yes, I like snakes and spiders and scorpions. I've even owned pedes :)

This female loves all those slithering, crawly things! Snakes are my fav, but I also have about 50 tarantulas, a few scorps, milli's , centi's, vinegaroons,a frog, lizards, cat , bird, and a roach colony! Let someone try to scare my kids with rubber roaches! How's that for crawlies! :D

I am female. I also freak people out a little when I talk about my snakes. I work at a local credit union and I guess when you run around in suits and heels all day they dont expect you to like snakes. :)

Arrrg, I know how you feel! My best friend in the world, is also an avid mammal-keeper (hamsters, a bunnie, guinea pig, and even a chinchilla.) So I usually don't talk about my snakie feedings, especially since she would love to have a pet rat, but that's the one thing she hasn't convinced her man would be a cool pet.. funny, we are best friends, but our animal tastes i keeing are alot different; she thinks fish are boring, while I love having them.. I am not a fuzzy critter person, but oddly I would love to have a bunny, but it is the One animal in the World that Mark is allergic to.. lol.
