    Need advice on refund
Back on 10/9/06 I ordered and paid through PayPal for some display cases from a fellow herper (not a member here to my knowledge). All but one piece arrived several days later but the tower and one display was damaged (acrylic was cracked on both). I contacted the seller and he arranged for UPS to pick up the damaged products. UPS srrived the next day (10/19) and picked it up.

My problem is that I have yet to see a refund for the damaged products returned or the one item that was never shipped. The story (when I can get an answer from him) is that he hasn't yet received a credit from UPS. I finally sent him another email today and again demanded a refund. I don't have much confidence that I'll see my $310 anytime in the near future.

Do any of you have any advice on what I should do? Has anyone encountered any similar problems? If so, how did you resolve it? All thoughts and help appreciated!

Problem is a claim can only be files within 45 days of purchase

"You can open a dispute in the Resolution Center within 45 calendar days of payment. By opening a dispute, you are able to communicate directly with your seller to work out a problem transaction."

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Unfortunately, it's been longer than 45 days so the PayPal dispute will probably not work now. I wish I'd posted earlier and got your good advice.

In my opinion, this is the type of customer service that reflects poorly on any industry.

It's not as if this person isn't well known - I didn't go buy from a fly by night "jimmy".

Alice, I don't think the refund from UPS should involve you. Meaning, he should have refunded the money when you requested, and then taken care of this issue between him and UPS.

Have you heard anything since the e-mail you wrote to him?

I just wanted to update everyone. I finally got my refund after a couple of more carefully worded emails from me based on lots of good advice. :carrot:

    Thanks everyone for your help!

Great news Alice. I don't know if it was a struggle on his end or if he was just being selfish? but maybe it's something you should post in the Board of Inquiry.

What ended up being the reasoning behind holding this money for so long?

People accept money instantly and return very slowly if at all! Glad to hear you finally got it resolved. I know what it's like to be on the wrong side of a bad deal!

Nate, the only reason I was ever given was that UPS hadn't refunded him the money for the damaged display. I'm just glad I'm out of that with only 4 months wasted.

Boy are you right on that one! It's hard at times to recognize the really outstanding business people in this industry - when I do I tend to stick with them. People like Adam, Ed, Michael Cole, Neil Golli, Sean and Celia, Kara, Cue, and many others on this forum.
