Early Birthday Present...
A few weeks ago I was telling my bestfriend how I don't know anything about boa constrictor's. His reply was "you'll learn". I didn't think anything of it... till two days ago when it all added up.
I got a few text messages from him sending me pictures of boa's. Nothing unusual since he sends me pic's of ball pythons and boa's all the time. I once again didn't think anything about it. I got one picture and I replied "That one is really pretty"... he sent me another one and I replied with "Awww what a cutie". Later that night I get a link sent to me. I check it out and low and behold it's that same baby boa from the pictures. The link was to her sale page. I asked why he was sending me her pictures and his reply was "You got to start somewhere". I just wrote "LOL". He wrote back "she is yours if you want her". I was shocked! So of course I emailed the guy who had her and we went out and picked her up yesterday. I only got to see her for a mear 30 minutes on the car ride back to his house.
So today on my way home from work I dropped by to say hello to her and snagged a few pictures!

So there she is.
Now to think up a name to fit her...

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Cute snake. The gloves are for?
-
Re: Early Birthday Present...
because.... it's 33°F outside and with the wind chill it feels like 25°F. I HATE THE COLD! Anything under 70 and I'm freezing. So I just never took off the coat or gloves.

Re: Early Birthday Present...

Re: Early Birthday Present...

Re: Early Birthday Present...
LOL I'm CLUELESS on Boa's! Apparently she is a hypo.... and as for the bci or bcc... I have no idea.
I'm over here reading up on Boa's as I write this!

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Pretty snake. The second picture is really cute.
-
Re: Early Birthday Present...
BCI is boa constrictor imperator, which is the common red-tail boa (Columbian).
BCC is boa constrictor constrictor, which is more expensive boas, such as the Surinam or Peruvian locales.
Very nice hypo! If there was one snake that I would own (besides another ball python :P) a BCI/BCC would be it.

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Thanks.
Laooda I'm soooo mad! Lastnight I walked my dog and when I came in she wanted a treat. So she jumped up on my and got her paw stuck in that jacket's pocket and well I heard a nice "RIIIP" looked down and now the pocket is nicely ripped. GRRRRRRR I doubt that can be fixed too! I LOVE that jacket!

There is no way for us to judge that with 100% guarentee. I am leaning toward a B.c.i. because of the hypo but you never know, She could be a B.c.i. x B.c.c. cross. Very nice either way and I am loving the colors. How about some more shots?
Welcome to the world of the Boas!!:carrot:

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Thanks!
I actually found the breeder that had her before the guy did. I just sent this person a email asking if he/she remembers this ones background/blood.
I'll take some more pictures of her in a bit. :)

Go to this page and take a look at the left frame. There are some species of Boa listed. Although you most likely have a Columbian BCI, there are also other locales of BCI such as Central American and Hog Island, and these different locales can look like different subspecies.

Most of the boas offered as Col. are not pure. Its getting harder and harder to find pure Colombian boas every year. My guess would be its a cross between a few different locals.

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Also wanted to add this. The boas pictured are B.c.Sabogae, a naturally occuring hypo local like Hoggs almost. I think E Clark has some of these
here is a theory that breeders in the U.S. unknowingly (?) produced their first
"hypos" (boas with few black pigments)
from crossbreeding with
Pearl Island boas.

She's really gorgeous :D I loved that second pic - what a little poser she is!! Sorry about the jacket - that was nice too - hope might be able to fix it.

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Well I've decided to name her Nova. Long story short the song Champagne Supernova was on the radio on the way back from picking her up and it just kinda stuck.

Yup yup I totally love this little girl!
The guy said she is nippy. She has yet to even act like she wanted to bite or strike.

Good luck at getting her switched although both of my boas went from live to f/t in 1 feeding. Its deffentilly more convenient when they get bigger as I'm sure the same is with your JCP

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Yeah I'll see if she will take a f/t rat pup if not I'll try a f/t mouse.... if not I'll be working with her to switch her over. Feeding f/t is a A LOT easier!

I agree. Both of mine went from live mice to f/t rats with no problems and I hope you get the good luck like that.

Re: Early Birthday Present...
Oh man now I see what everyone says they change from ligh to dark and visa versa! WOW!
Today was feeding day and she was a light pinkish color when opened up her tub. After I got her out she turned a darked color and after a few she lighted up a bit. When she smelled that mouse she turned dark and stayed pretty dark till I put her back in her tub. I was amazed!
Anyways I fed her a live mouse today, next Thursday I'll try a live rat pup... if she takes that then the next week I'll try a prekilled rat pup. That is the plan if all goes right, if not Plan B will be in the works!
Here are some pictures:
*Nova: Something smells like a... like a.... likea MOUSE!

After she killed it she proceeded to drag is all over the container I had her in...

Then down the shoot it went!
