Mouse on the loose
Ooops, one of the mice got away. And now I am trying to catch it - fast little buggers! :P Hmmm, I think it's the mousetrap for him. I am not chasing this little guy around all afternoon. I know - frozen/thawed never get away.

Re: Mouse on the loose
That would be the easy solution but I am worried my snake will get hurt. Oh well, hopefully he will go for the trap or get stupid and come out where I can get him. Any way you look at it, the mousies day is ending badly.

Re: Mouse on the loose
If you have a friend with a small terrier, especially of the Russell variety, see if you can engage their services. :-P
I dropped a mouse last week and my tiny little Pap-X was after it instantly. I had to hold her off with one hand and catch it with the other.

This is the one thing my wife's dog is good for! Jack russel....most of the time I want to beat her but she fights back grrrrowl!
I've had hoppers escape some die, some find the dog food if its left out and very few ever get caught in traps.
*I don't mean beat literally above of course, that little dog thinks she about 100 times bigger than she really is.

Re: Mouse on the loose
We had to chase a full grown mouse through a Ford Escort Stationwagon once. What a crazy time that was (though the children thought it was massively entertaining to see mom upside down, arse in the air trying to dig a small white mouse out from under the seat). After that I designed my own chew proof rodent carriers...no way am I ever using the dumb thin cardboard boxes the pet store puts live feeders in again.

Re: Mouse on the loose
It's a lot easier to go to the petstore with a small plastic kritter keeper to put rodents in instead.

Re: Mouse on the loose
Nate - why I felt it was unsafe was the piece of furniture the little guy went under is very old and heavy. It's been here for a dog's age and I've never seen the bottom of it. I can't be sure there are not sharp bits of wood or whatever sticking out under there. Also once he got the mouse, if he didn't come out on his own, I'd have a tough time getting him out. So - just didn't seem like a viable option.

Re: Mouse on the loose
we keep a few very small live traps (the cage kind with the door that closes when the little tray is moved as they start to eat) for the room where are rats are kept. Im not sure if they make them small enough for mice though). We use live traps incase its one of our breeders that gets out, because we wouldnt want to lose a mature breeder that way. Also alot safer on the toes as many people as there are working in that room.

Re: Mouse on the loose
We have a black rat loose in the garage where there are plenty of shadows :(
He got loose one time a few months ago, and was loose for nearly a month. Hard to get to him between the racks/tubs, and he is good at hiding.... we hunted him for 45 minutes once and finally got him. He was very wild for a bit, as he wasn't used to us. After a few days he calmed down and would let us pet/handle him again. He was in with a bunch of smaller babies in a growout so we wouldn't misplace him, unfortunately about 3-4 black rats grew up to his size, and as i was pulling that tub out he rocketed into a flying jump that took him to another rack, and he was gone.
Here we go again :(

Re: Mouse on the loose
I swear that mouse is taunting me - munching and crunching and scratching - always behind the furniture. I can sometimes see him but I can't get at him.

Re: Mouse on the loose
Ha - I caught him! Silly mouse thought my BED was a good place to hide out. Making my bed- folded back the covers and there he was. So - he's on death row until feeding day. :P
