Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
=(
I feel like crying right about now.
The good news.... Saharah finally stopped wheezing after 7 treatments of Baytril.
The bad news.... Sebastian is now showing signs of a RI. Last few days he's been acting "off". I saw him "yawn" a few times yesterday and that threw the red light up. This morning I found him with his chin smooched up against the tub with his head pointing towards the ceiling. I've seen him take a few long yawns already today. He also is is acting very slugish and that not like him at all.
So now I'm upset since probably everyone is now infected with it.
Saharah was no where near my room or any where near anyone else since I've gotten her. So I'm stumped. I've been crazy clean with what I do with them. She gets everything done last to her and then I scrub and wash like a mad woman and don't touch, breath on, or even look at the others.
So I guess germs stuck to me/my clothes and well took a ride into here and attacked.
So now I have a 10:45 apt to see Dr. Gold once again but this time with Sebastian and I'm going to see what he says about the other 6.
Now I'm wondering if my Leo Gecko can get this junk. If so he may have it too. :(
//sigh//
RI's stink!
end rant.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Well I got back. He gave me some for Sebastian and said if anyone else starts showing symptoms to give him a call, give him their weights and he'll make up more syringes of baytrl.
*crosses fingers*
I bumped up everyone's heat and humidity!
Also think I'm going to wash and lysol myself to death before doing anything with anything and in between!

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Sorry to hear the news. Last year my BP got an RI and she stayed in the same freedom breeder rack as other BP's and no one else got anything. One difference was my vet made me lower my humidity and felt that the humidity may(not definately) have led to the original infection. I kept the temps up but kept everything drier. I just followed Dr.'s orders and it worked fine for me, he told me 60% humidity was to high for her and to get it to 40%or 50%max. After the injections she completely cleared up within a week! Good luck with your babies!

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Alison so sorry to hear that. . .How many injections did the doc prescribe for both of the snakes. I have a snake that has an URI and the doc prescribed one shot of baytirl a day for 14 days. I talked to a vet-tech thats a member here and she said that with only 7 shots the URI will go away but come right back even worse.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
She was given a shot every 48 hours. He didn't give me any more for her since she seems to be clearing up...
He gave me 5 for Sebastian and I have to give them to him every 48 hours as well.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Yeah 5 or 7 is not enough. It will go away but it will come back right away alot worse.
-
Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Just to clarify that is what I was told by a vet-tech on here.
-
Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
I've got the same thing going on.
I'm taking two of mine in tomorrow for suspected RI's. =/
I asked if I should bring all 5 of the bps in and they said no. I'm not sure if they've all go it or not.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
RI's are a pain!
My vet did say that they get RI's easier this time of year since our outside temps / pressure, etc are changing. Makes sense I guess.
If I get to the 5th shot and he isn't acting normal again then yes I'll get more like I did before. He also said if it does come back he is going to get a culture of it. While walking out he said "Don't worry we'll get it taken care of and nip it in the bud". hehe cute.
LOl talking about vet techs... the poor girl today was scared of the little guy. She said "Eww snake" and had me weigh him and when I took him out of the bag she backed up. I looked at her and said "Don't worry he's not going to come flying out of here trying to get ya... he's mellow with me."
Sebastian was fine till he was handed off to someone he didn't know (Dr. Gold) then he put on the "I'm so strong.... see I'm going to keep twirling and twisting around and around.... me nice HAHAHAHA and as soon as you get this thing out of my mouth your face is going to be mine!!!!".
Yeah he put on a big show for such a little guy.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
If it was me I would still get 7 more shots for the girl and 9 more for the boy! I am just trying to give advice. Just letting you know.

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Andre who on here told you this?

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
I am almost positive it was Satanicintention(sp)!

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
The number of shots is really going to vary depending on the medication used and how serious the vet thinks the condition is.
-
Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
What are your temps in the cages?
-
Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
95 on warm side and 82 on cool side

Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
Are they in a rack or in tanks? Is there any way they could be getting a draft from a window? For 2 of your snakes to get URI so close together when you are not cycling there has to be somthing causing this.
-
Re: Just what I was affraid of! mini rant
I have a rack. Nope my window is on the other side of my room.
I actually bought the one snake (Saharah) not knowing that she had a RI.

Yup, it's called transferance.
When dealing with sick animals, you should wash your hands and all cleaning paraphernalia between each and every animal.
It's all in the boogers. :carrot:
