New idea on how to improve spaghetti
I am one of those people that add to certain foods to improve the same ol boring tastes.I found a guy the other day that sells rabbits and i bought a couple. While we were talking i noticed he was a hunter and told him about my miss at the doe the other day.So as we were leaving he hands me a frezer bag with deer meat in it :D . So tonight i made spaghetti and used the deer meat instead of hamburger .Now i am even more sad that i missed that doe as when this spaghetti is gone so is the deer meat :( .Give it a try you will not be sorry :D

My co-worker hunts, but she's hunted all she has freezer space for. Apparently, if another co-worker and I would like, she'll hunt one more, and we can split the $60 charge and each get half the deer, already processed into ground venison. Seriously thinking about it.

Since I'm originally from GA and I used to hunt regularly I can relate. I've made Spaghetti with deer meat and just the though of it makes me miss hunting.

Do you process the deer and add spices to it as people want? A freind of mine had a deer processed here and it turned out costing him $95,of course he had the links, roast and such made. How far into Ohio are you? For $45 i might look you up if i ever get a deer lol.

Ohhhh sauce made with venison burger....the best! *drool* I love chili made with moose burger too (though don't overcook it). I grew up on game meat. If it's butchered right and cooked properly, it's pretty hard to beat. Well other than barrenland cariboo....didn't care for that much at all. :(

I'm sure it has to do with general prices in the area. I'm in metro Atlanta, where everything seems to be more expensive.

My family will take venison and elk over beef anytime of the week! I personally dont like ground elk (venison is good)in my spaghetti, everytime it tends so get a fishy smell/flavor but it seems Im the only one to have issues with it. Put either of them into a roast and yummmmm. And once in awhile we get decent sausage but mist often than not I dont care for it alot.
Had moose before too very good and very lean.

yeah i do it all, jerky summer sausage & sausage, but its all extra above the $45, i'm in north east ohio. I spent more time cleaning all the talo and sliver skin off then most people do. i pride my self with repeat hunters. i don't do as many as i use to but they keep coming back. the $45 is for skinning, breaking it down to boneless, cutting steaks and grinding, and freezer wrapping...

Moose is great if you cook it right and adjust for it's natural leanness. I'd pay you that cash easy Joe. One year Mike and I decided to butcher our own deer. Never, ever, never, ever again! What a mess and the time it took was just ridiculous! Getting that silver off alone was ages and I was about ready to scream by the time we were done. I don't mind spending the time cutting up venison for my dehydrater to make jerky but I'll never butcher a whole carcass again. That's for you experts to deal with!

well i'm no expert**blush** well maybey darn close....lol. yeah it take practice, and a lot of it, the deer seem to come to me in pairs and it takes me from skinning to freezer about 2 1/2 to 3 hours for both if im jammin. the longest part it cleaning the sliver and the talo...

mmm i love deer sausage myself. The best caribou I've ever had was made with "jerky" sauce.

I wouldn't mind going hunting sometime. I should find some good places to go fishing this summer, I haven't gone fishing in years.

Venison spaghetti is one of my wife's best meals...she loves to make it and we both love to eat it. I joke about her using a cauldron to make it all in as she makes enough for the two of us to eat it 1-2 times a day for a week or more!

We just got our venison supply replenished for the winter...I wish we had a bigger freezer or a stand alone...we have to keep most of it at my parents.

I wish i could but no one has anything like that for the disabled :( .We do have one of those "50ft high fenced in wannabe" preserves close to me that has buffalo. It only costs $2000 to shoot one  .I do not veiw that as a true hunt at all.Heck before i would spend $2000 to shoot a buffalo i would figure out how to shoot this deer that shows up in my neighbors yard every night :P .

    funny deer story
I was in an archery competition at Fort Carson (Silver Springs, CO.) and I hear over the big horn. "Stop. Place all bows down." So I look at the other lanes an 6 deer are moving through the range. The guy next to me reaches in his pack and waves his tag in the air and says "I have a doe tag, let me shoot." The tower says "Put your tag away, This is government property you can't hunt here." He was miffed.

But it was funny, over 100 bows, thousands of arrows and those 6 deer just walked through.

Dangit...*THIS* is the only reason why I miss the Midwest...well, one of two...

    - you have wonderful game meat and you can always bum some venison off someone you know.

    - you actually have weather. We have no weather in SoCal - just a difference in temperature. Otherwise, sunny and clear and it looks the same = boring.

Naa if i hit one my deductuble is $500,no deer is worth that much:P .Where i live our street is a dead end with woods and we have several deer that wander around and are not scared of anyone. One actually walks around in my neighbors yard not 5ft from our house  .If i could figure out a way to shoot her without alerting every cop in our area i would have more deer meat lol.Just for the record my neighbors dont care as one guy has even taken a few turkeys in the past.Yes we have a LARGE group of turkeys whom are also not scared of people. If you drive down a couple streets over the turkeys set in the middle of the road and will NOT move:8: .

I lived off of venison as meat for the past few years; sadly, no one has gotten a deer here this year; people are just overhunting and I think that the deer are wise to it, definately. Our neighbor took a MONSTER 10 pointer a few weeks ago; I was gritting my teeth when I saw that one!
Now we just have beef that was raised on our friends' farm; still know where it came from, not like buying it at the store.. blech!
