fraudulant disability rant

I need to rant, and I am sure that some of you can relate or at least enjoy reading me rant. :) I was told by a friend, that this woman we know, is practicing disability fraud. She is basically being paid by the government to sit home and do nothing, when she has no real handicaps or disabilities at all.. She gets "scared and terrified" at the idea of working, yet she can shop, drive a large van, live alone and otherwise be normal.. so she gets a nice 3000.00 check this month, more in the future. AND she regularly gambles at the casino!!
Now, I am not rich. I work in collections for about 1500.00 a month, after taxes.. I have been at it for a year, and finally this month I got a bonus that equals about 2500. Well.. half of that nice check goes to taxes. Taxes that help pay for these low-lives to sit around and do nothing when they CAN work, and they feed off of people like me who slave away for 40 hours a week, not to mention caring for home life, kids (though I have none, I mean working parents here.) They're paid to drive whatever car they choose (I see these tenants of Mark's property-management investors..) These low-lives can be fully functioning workers, instead they do nothing, get money, and go out and RACK UP credit card debt.. have a thousand kids.. I am also bitter because I collect from these people, and they have the audacity to say that they can't pay this month b/c it's the holidays. Heh, I am getting my family members cheapo gifts; this does not affect my budgeting at all, because.. hello.. I have good credit because I work and pay my bills. The real reason for my joy in this season is not buying my sister a DVD; it is spending time with my healthy, happy family.
I ain't buying the whole thing about disadvantages in life. Mark and I both came from diddly squat; he started his biz with about $10 in the bank, and I am fighting tooth and nail at this job, and succeeding finally.. these people should be ashamed of themselves for feeding off of decent hardworking Americans.
I need to add. I am NOT talking about the genuinely disabled who need help; the elderly who worked their lives and are on SSI. Or people like my friend, who are in constant, not-made-up pain from a car accident or other health misfortune. Or people who get non-preventable diseases such as cancer, or even those that develop from work-related injuries. I seriously feel for these people and if taxes were not required, I would freely give to these people because I could be like that tomorrow. But these deadbeats (some of which sell drugs or enter other illega persuasions for free nontaxed money..) shame on them.
Sorry if I upset anyone; this is just something I need to get out, because it is festering inside of me.

I think the only person you would offend is a person practicing fraud. You have every right to be upset, and it bothers me too. But it will catch up to them one day. they're only digging their own grave.

Are you positive 100% that she has no disability? Some aren't that noticeable, physically or mentally. You'd be surprised how many people out there have a right to such things.

Preach on! I personally hate giving up money to taxes to help pay for the people around here who could work, but choose to have 8 kids and have the government support them. I am sick of working 40 hours a week and taking 15 hours at school this semester only to have my paychecks missing a good $200 chunk

I don't mind taxes themselves. Without them prices would be much higher. I would rather pay a little extra and give up a little extra every 2 weeks than have to deal with higher prices for goods. Also, taxes help to run stuff for the country. Can you be anti-U.S. growth? I just hate knowing that a portion of that is going to some low life who is too lazy to get a job.

No what bothers me is the fact that I'm docked for Social Security when its going to be non existant by the time I'm ready to use it. Just the attitude of some of the people who use these benefits provided to them; such as welfare. Its meant as a means for aid, not a crutch to stand on for the rest of your life. I'm by no means anti-US growth, but if you see some of the grants and what they go towards you'd be baffled too. I happen to live on long island which is also one of the most expensive places to live, property taxes here are rediculous. I think you took what I said to literal my down with taxes was more of a joke.

One thing that REALLY kills me is someone who uses drugs or is a Alcoholic is given benafits with zero problems.Then someone like myself gets cancer and nerve damage to my legs(chemo sideaffect:( ) and because of my age at the time(34).I was treated like i commited murder :mad:.Now i did not go out to the street corner or the liquer store and buy my cancer cells like these losers that choose to be worthless.Yet i had to hire a lawyer just to get my benefits that I WORKED for! The lawyer got $4000+ just for filing a paper and setting in a room for 1 hour :mad:.We lost everything when i got sick and do you think we were given any state assistance NOPE :mad: .I nearly died when i opened the hospital bill(ICU 11 DAYS + code blue a couple times) plus several days in reg room both before surgery and after,are you ready for the bill amount? Try 110 thousand :eek: .I do not even want to reply about the misuse of food stamps or public aid checks in Illinois as i will get banned for sure :P .Now the part where everyone is saying to turn that lady in.Majority of the people turned in for welfare fraud never get investigated when they are ripping off the system.Now people who are like my freind who broke his neck in a swimming accident and is a quad he gets turned in for working every other month.Now he barely moves his arms and head but they still place a hold on his check until they "investagate" him :mad: .So basicly if you ever get hurt or sick and have to file for disability or something,prepare to be treated like crap unless of course you are ripping off the system then you will be treated like ROYALTY :mad: .

I can completly see what you are saying. We have a bunch of low life's up the street living in section 8 housing who do nothing but yell, cause trouble, do drugs and drink. I know not one of those people have a job. I also know they probably are on welfare and or get a nice "disability" check every month. Makes me sick!

When my mother got lung cancer in 2000, she could not work and that really hurt us hard. My father had to get a better job to pay minimal payment of each of the 20+ hospital and doctor bills we had. We couldn't get any state aid or anything to help us out on bills. I know when she died a few months later we were still in over our heads with bills and the companies gave us a run for our money when we proved that she had died. Took us a LONG time to get them to stop sending us bills. Three years later my father got lung cancer and could not work... He still got some money from his state job, but I had to work a full time job and a part time job to help him out with all of his bills now. He could not get any state aid or anything. We almost lost everything and even put our house up for sale. Yea it was bad.


Like Joe said when you aren't ripping off the system you get treated like dog poop and when you are ripping off the system you get treated like a God. System is messed up!

Allison, i am so sorry to hear what you and your family had to go thru :( .

don't blame the people, blame the system that let's them do it!!

Like they say it takes two to tango.I blame the people who do it and those who allow it equally.

The sad fact is we live in a society in the States that truly believes no one cares. Not for each other and certainly not that the government cares about it's citizens. If people believe they are not important and no one cares, they simply do not care. Not about you, or your tax dollar, or the law or what is right or moral...or even about themselves or personal pride. We have become a society of "me" people. What's best for me, what I can get out of you or the system, me...me...me. My needs, my toys, my stuff and who cares about you or the greater good.

That is unfortunately the end result of a society and it's government that encourages rampant consumerism, sues everybody that looks at you cross-eyed, starts wars that make no sense, refuses to provide basic health care to the majority of it's citizens, spends more time defending gun laws than putting coats on kids backs and sorry to say is so apathetic that we have a sitting President that nobody seems to actually like anymore.

We are all a part of the problem and we can all be part of the solution. If someone is breaking a law, report them and make someone listen to you. If you see someone in real need, help them or find someone who can help them. Encourage people to remember their pride again. Remember your own and it isn't about who has the most toys. Make someone, somewhere care because as far as I'm concerned the most dangerous thing in the world is apathy.

I don't see how they get away with it. My Aunt has severe back problems and has had multiple surgeries and will probably have even more. She was trying to get disability for over 4 years and had to go to 4 different doctors etc just to prove she had something wrong with her. In the meantime she almost lost her house. How do people with nothing wrong qualify?

Mostly I think Bill because they know how to use the system so well. They know what to say and who to say it to. Very sad that all those smarts are used that way isn't it.

I worked in a women's crisis shelter on and off for 10 years. Even with my own knowledge and the great training and support we got there, we got conned and inadvertently helped some women use us and the welfare/legal system to get what they wanted. It's very frustrating to be in a system, designed to help women and children and suspect you have a con artist working you but they know exactly what to say to trigger the response they want from you. Most know exactly how the system works, what their legal rights are and how to make sure they get what they want. You either can't prove they are frauds or are constrained by the legal responsibilities of your job covering client confidentiality and those types know exactly how to manipulate that.

Sometimes I don't see how they manage it either. I just finally got approved for a short term disability claim. I've been out of work for other a month now. I haven't found out yet if they are going to do gall bladder surgery, but they are definitely going to take out my tonsils next week.

I've been to the ER about 6 times in the last month and had quite a few tests.

I'm glad I have decent health insurance where I work.

I've certainly spent enough on medical bills for "pre-existing condition" in my lifetime already.

Btw, if you didn't know, you can deduct medical bills from your taxes if you do line item deductions and if it is over a certain percentage of your income.

Edit: Also, there is a form somewhere you can be removed from social security, but I can't remember if you are still deducted for it or not.

I am sorry if this offends anyone. I say this up-front because, I have been very lucky, and I don't want people to think that I am bragging.


At the age of 8, I was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrom (IBS). I could not keep down milk products, had problems with wheat products, all sorts of food and digestive problems -- yet I was not allergic to any foods. I was given a perscription to a drug which was normally prescribed to hiperactive children and people with mental disorders (1967 - I can't remember the name). When my mother found out about the pill, she flushed them down the toilet and told to be tough-it-out and stop trowing-up, after all it was all in my head. I learned how to survive this and in a few years things got a little better.

THEN after 16 years, while in the Army, I had a major relapse and was in and out of the ER. They put me on lithium -- thinking that I was bi-polar -- sent me to a psychologist 2x per week. Tried every test known to God, and then some. Finally, convinced that I would not be able to stay in the Army, I did not re-enlist. When I left, I was given an honorable discharge with a less than 10% disability. This allows me to go to an Veterans Hospital if I can't afford to go to a regular one. --- I will never go to a VA hospital they are really bad.

UNFORTUNATELY, because of the stuff in my medical records, my Top Secret Clearence was revoked, and I was asked to leave my cushy Military Contractor position.

Why is this a problem, IBS is not normal for males. In fact it is normally a phenomena that occurs in teenage girls, and generally goes away after a few years. Now, there are treatments available for women, but not for men. (They use female hormones and have bad side affects on men.)

Often I wonder if I will ever have a normal bowel day -- it does happen once every 2-3 months. My regular doctor has given me a bunch of advice, try this try that, but nothing seems to help. BUT it has all been covered by my insurance. THAT IS WHAT I FIND TOTALLY AMAZING. I can only think, that because I got a Military Disability, the insurance companies cover it.

I am sorry for those who cannot get their insurance carriers to cover their illnesses, I just got lucky. I have always had IBS, but at least the Government recognizes it as a legitimate problem.

A perfect example of a con artist using the system to her advantage.A freind of mine recently was divorced from his wife.It took him a year of putting up with having the Sheriff come to his home at midnite and forcefull taking his guns.She filed a false report saying he was sitting across from her trailer waiting to shoot her(lie #1).He does not have a CAR or access to one.Long story shorter he applied for public assistance(medical card) and was told he was behind in his child support(lie #2).He brought back receipts of EVERY payment towards the child support.Of course the case worker(also his exwifes case worker) was mad at this point.He also reported that she was living with a guy(boyfreind) that works for CATERPILLAR! Of course nothing ever happened to her but my freind has been harrased by the police,code inforcement jerks and numerouse freinds of hers because he reported her :mad: .Now the ( place your choice of word here) is getting FULL public aid,$400 child support plus her boyfreinds income :mad: and NOTHING has happened to her and never will.So even with the evidence in front of the state worker NOBODY cared enough to put a stop to her fraud actions.O by the way the State informed my freind to STOP filing false reports or he will be prosecuted:mad: .Gee i wonder when evidence became false info :mad: .

The only way to fight this type of abuse is to take lots of pictures and goto a TV station. You cannot fight the state by yourself! If a TV station thinks that they can get a sensational story that will give them a 10 minute story, your friend will see immediate results.

I see no reason a TV station would even care no more then the state does :confuzd: .The newspapers report yearly how much the teen pregnancies have grown yet the STATE still allows these people to lay up on Welfare checks and spit out kids like rabbits.They "made" a law in Illinois back a little that once your kid(kids) are in school you had 1yr to find a job or if you dont you will be dropped from the welfare system.It lasted 1 month and they removed it saying "it was a cruel act" forcing them to find work :mad: .Gee i wonder when work was a cruel act,my jobs in the past must have been a chain gang :mad: .

I've read through this, and I completely understand where folks are coming from, and agree with the outrage expressed against those who are essentially stealing resources from others who have a genuine need for them. The world is full of creeps....not just America. Every single country on the planet has its full share of jerks and losers and truly evil people. That's one market America has not cornered.

But for every creep, jerk, loser, and evilness out there....there are hundreds of good people who go out of their way to help others and who genuinely care about the plight of those less fortunate than themselves. There are those who work tirelessly and daily in shelters and soup kitchens. Whole families who give up their personal Thanksgivings and Christmases to help out in shelters on those special days. A man who gives away a priceless toy he won in a drawing to a little girl who wanted it far more than he did. A family that spends their Christmas gift budget not on themselves, but on children who would otherwise have no Christmas. Firemen and policemen who daily put their lives on the lines to help people who may never say "Thank you" or show any iota of appreciation for the sacrifices made for them. A fat, old lady trains her ass off to complete an endurance sport event just to raise money for children with Leukemia and other horrible cancers. Whole teams of people....thousands of them....every day training and running, cycling, swimming...to raise money to help people they've never met. A man who takes in a hitch-hiking girl he picked up off the highway...takes her home to his family and gives her a warm, safe place to stay until he can get her back home to her family.

Every day...individuals...groups...whole organizations...working their asses off and sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice...for no other reason than its the right thing to do and they care about people. Please don't forget that while the world is indeed full of the careless and the evil....it's also stuffed chock full of the selfless and good.
