Introduction

So now i have the future breeding pair, and i wanted to know when to introduce them. Should they meet now before they breed in the future (they wont be breeding for a few years, they are '06s)? Or do you just put them together when you want them to breed?

You don't need to put them thru the stress of putting them together if they are not going to breed.

yep believe it or not i had a pair together since i bought them....never bothered to separate them. they never bred. this was a few years ago with my first batch of ball pythons...i had to sell them :(

anyway, this year i find out she's popping out nice clutches of eggs!

I'm not sure what you're asking exactly... are you wanting them to have a "meet" outside of their enclosures, or are you wanting to keep them in the same enclosure long term?

This was not the case with mine. While I am not advising that you put them together, I got my first pair of BP's from a friend who was moving. They came to me in the same enclosure and I kept them in the same enclosure. This was before I knew what sort of problems could arise from this practice... Anyway, I later had them sexed and they turned out to be a sexual pair, and they bred through the season. I removed the male as soon as I could visually assume the female would lay soon per the advice of a friend, and soon after she laid 5 eggs.

Since then, I have learned a lot from this forum, and the pair now stay separated, each in their own enclosure, as do all the rest of my snakes.

i think i was semi misunderstood, i don't mean keeping them together, i won't do that, i was talking about when i take them out to hold them, taking them both out and letting them hang out together for like 15 minutes, and them going back to their seperate tanks.

aaahhhhh ok now your question makes a lot of sence since you put it in that context. And honestly, i don't know. I see pix of an adult female vs. a baby male for comparison...excellent picture, and i doubt anything horrible happened. yours are just babies...i'm sure it wouldn't hurt! i could be wrong

Kinda like a date prior to the deed.. LOL :hump: No it not needed they will do just fine having never seen each other before.

There's nothing wrong with letting two BP's be together...folks take pictures of them together all the time. However, I see no benefit in the practice with regards to future mating potential.

My main concern at this point would be quarantine. You got the animals from two different sources, and so they should be kept completely separate from each other for a few months.

I agree with the post above, I hope you are not handling one right after the other.

nope..i just think ahead a lot. I have hand sanitizer between each of their cages to make sure that nothing goes wrong...i usually wash my hands, because it is better than hand sanitizer, but they are going to be kept seperate, don't worry :)

IMO I'd keep them seperate, you've got your husbandry taken care of so just keep that up. Continue to feed them their appropriate sized rodents and be patient. Differen't snakes grow at differen't rates, I've seen year old animals that were rather large and some that were Avg size...


Typically, it takes a good 2 to 3 seasons before a Female is of sexual maturity
(size/age) But I was amazed to see a yearly female a few weeks ago that my local breeder friend has that was pushing 1,200 grams...It's never refused a meal and it's husbandry couldn't be perfect...but I would think it's safe to say its more genetics tho...

you have very beautiful Animals...as hard as it may be...Be patient and enjoy them while their young.:)
