Enclosures

I have my BP in a 45 gallon breeder right now only problem is it is glass with a screen top and I am sick of trying to keep humidity up and having heat loss.

I really don't want to use a plastic tub but would like a nice wood enclosure for him any websites you guys/girls can give me the links to. Or give me information on how to set up a plastic tub.

Any information is appreciated!!

I still haven't bought my BP yet, but I went ahead and bought a sterilite tub. I'm getting my supplies all ready. If it's visibility you're worried about in buying a tub, I can see into the tub just fine.

Granted, it isn't as pretty as a wood setup or a glass tank can be...but I think from all I've read on this site and elsewhere, that maintaining a good environment (heat/humidity) for my future baby will be much easier in a tub than in either of those other two enclosures.

If you're going for looks and not ease, then I'm sure people can point you to the right place to buy an attractive enclosure.

And as far as tub setups go--search for "tub" in the forum section and you'll have TONS of things to read about :) I've read past posts for hours, and they're all very helpful.

If you want premade, I would stick to the guys that use PVC. Since I do not want to offend anyone because I missed them in the list, I won't post a list of the guys that I know of.

If you just read through a few of the "threads" in the husbandry forum, you'll see a bunch of good advice.

I would choose one of the many plastic cages over wood any day. I've never used wood but I would think the plastic is easier to clean and maintain. I'd go with any of the popular styles, e.g. Animal Plastics, Herpenclosures, Vision, Boaphile etc. Use the search function or just scroll through the dozens of threads in the Caging forum and you should be able to find whatever you need.

I'm currently using a glass tank with a screened over top and I'm not having any problems with humidity and temps. I guess the trick is covering as much of it as possible to keep in the humidity. The lid I built for my tank has an opening on two sides, on the one side I covered the screen completely with tin foil to keep in the humidity. I'm not sure about the location of your tank, but with mine the top is difficult to see and the tin foil is barely visible so it looks nice.

I'll try to snap some pictures and post them for you to see. The lid construction took a couple of hours with a friend of mine helping and it works great. Hopefully tonight I'll be able to get some shots.

Is this a good size for my BP? (48L x 24D x 15H) are those ok for a BP for the rest of his life?

That is more than enough. If you really want to, you can go smaller. That is the size enclosure I use for my 7 ft BCI

That one (the T10) could handle a really chunky big girl.


For a "normal" Ball Python the T3 is good (36x24x12).

Thanks for going to the site and looking for me!! Akiva!! Think I'll go with the smaller more comfortable one.

Do you think these will hold humidity well? I know my Glass tank is sooo bad at holding humidity and heat.

Oh I get it I just went to you? website and saw that pic!! I'm going to be getting an albino sometime in the summer probably!! Once I get my husbandry down with my first BP!!
