4 finalists for cover image!
Okay, so here's the five finalists for the cover image on my magazine. Remember, the image is not only used as the cover but also as all the graphics for the mag as well... plus the colours of the background and fonts are all linked to the colours within the image.
So... wanna pretend to be a publisher for a moment? Which image of these four would you use if it was your name on the publication?
(just so you know... I will be choosing the one I prefer but I really want to hear your input on this! pretend I'm your English teacher LOL)
So, in no particular order:

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
I like 1 and 2 the best? Why? Well, who doesn't love kittens - the picture is pretty centered, without a lot of "noise" in the background.
And the horse picture for many of the same reasons - centered, not a lot of "noise" in the background, it's crisp and clean!
I like all the pictures, it's just these 2 were the ones that stood out for me, no disrespect to the contributors of the other pictures!

I'm biased so I vote for my cat! #5! Show some love people!!

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
I really like #5. It brings immediate focus and attention to the idea of "pets." It's a beautiful face and it would be a relatively simple matter to pull elements out of the picture to use as graphics. Color schemes could include tans, grays, whites, and of course the green of those eyes!

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
I especially like the play of shadows & light in the horse pic, how the white side of her face is in shadow, but the dark side of the face catches a ray of sun. Cool contrast. :)

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
I like the first picture, but I feel that to many of the kits are facing away from the camera, so I would either go with the froggies, or the close up of the kitty face. The others are nice but the froggies grabbed my attention most quickly.

I love the horse and the frogs!

Crud, I misread the numbering and voted for the wrong one. Oh well.

I like the statue....but it doesn't say "pets" to me. For that matter...I think the picture of the frogs is really cool, too...but it doesn't seem to quite fit a "pet" themed magazine issue. That's just my personal take on it, though. ;)

on page one of this thread ;)
judy,
the intent of the magazine is to twist, pull, bend and draw out a theme from the cover and from the articles. after all, 10 articles on "i love my dog" would make for some pretty boring reading ;) if you look at the archive page here you can see all the images and the themes... being "obvious" isn't really what i do with the magazine,... even the headings for the columns are a 'tongue-in-cheek' type of thing - Lifetalks for the animal communicator's column, Technically Tarot for the tarot column because she doesn't read cards... she studies the history and sells them so she's more technical than intuitional... you get the idea i'm sure.
sorry, i think i went into teacher mode again. your english teacher is now leaving the room, feel free to have your own thoughts again LOL

Duh, thanks. I love the horse the eyes and background are spectacular almost majestic. Good Luck! You have some great pics to choose from. The frogs and kitties are tied for second for me.

Vote for Pedro!
Wait, no one named Pedro entered.. none of the pets are named Pedro.. but it sounded funny! :)

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
I'm not sure what your magazine is about. So maybe my vote is not appropriate. I have seen bits and pieces on this site, but have not seen the magazine itself.I feel it is a little busy on some photos. I really like some of the photos, but they just don't seem right for cover art. The horse would look right on the cover of a equine magazine. This is just my opinion though.

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
Nancy,
My magazine is about enlightenment. If you look at the archives you can see the kinds of cover images we've used in the past. Great thing about it is... the busier the photo the better is often is for the cover... as there's more things graphically to focus on ;)
And... everyone's vote, regardless of their motivation and reasons for choosing the image (or no images) they do, is valid IMO. After all... each of my readers are individuals as well ;)

I can't wait to see what you come up with; all of your covers I've seen were definately things you should be proud of!

Re: 4 finalists for cover image!
thanks so much jen. honestly, the cover is as important as each article and column i choose to publish within the magazine... as the cover sets the tone for the issue. once that tone is set... everything seems to just flow from it!
i'm hoping the tone i set from this cover will create an equally amazing issue!
