    Sad News
I was gonna be posting good news about bob taking his first weaner rat last night with no problems at all , but late last night before i went to bed i did my routine check on my snakes and found Jade my western Hognose on her back and bleeding though her nostrils .
To put it simply im gutted... seeing her like that was a shock as just a few hours before she was fine.
Im not really a colubrid person but i love the western hognose snakes...im going to miss her alot

That's so awful!! I'm really sorry to hear that. I'm worrying about my hoggy at the moment as she's not eating and I love her to bits - it's awful when one of your beloved pets dies :( . Have you any idea what happened to her?

Do you think you'll be able to get a necropsy? I'm so sorry to hear that.

Yeah. i have her in the freezer atm ill be able to take her in to the vet tueesday morning to have a necropsy done.
i havnt a clue why she suddenly died like this i know a few months back she laid those unfertile eggs maybe that has something to do with it?? , she was checked over after that and there were no more eggs in her so being egg bound isnt the reason .
ill just have to wait for the necropsy on tuesday

thanks for the kind comments , you lot are great people :)

Keep us posted. If you do find out what it was it may be a learning tool for others.

I saw you are looking for an adult male, why not pick up a small pastel right now and breed it next year?

FYI, a necrospy is much harder to do on a frozen specimen. If it's just until Tuesday, the tissues will keep just fine in the fridge.

When you freeze tissues, they deteriorate significantly.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

So very sorry to read of the sudden loss of this lovely snake. What a shock to open an enclosure and find that. Hope the necropsy can at least give you some answers as to what occurred.

your kidding??? i didn't know that , i thought her being in the freezer would help perserve her better.
can a necrospy still be done now?

Look at this way...decay and freezing are both destructive to the tissues. If it's only a few days until the specimen is evaluated, then you're better off refrigerating it. If it's going to be a while though...say a week or more...then freezing will cause less damage than the inevitable decay.

Necropsy can still be done on a frozen specimen, but it will be harder to distinguish subtly abnormal tissues.
