roxy bit me !
i was feeding roxy today and all went well, after she finished, she had her head out of her feeding tub and i had my hand under her head and my other holding the tub and she must of thought my hand that was under her head was a mouse and she lifted her head and bit my hand, she held on for a bit but she let go after i poured some water on her head, it made me bleed a bit and its stinging a bit now but im sure it will be ok.

Re: roxy bit me !
This is a good reason to feed your snake in it's normal enclosure. Snakes remain in 'feeding mode' even after they have eaten, and bites like yours are much more likely to happen if you remove the snake from it's normal cage to feed it.
And no, your snake won't think your hand means food if you feed it in it's cage.

Burzum after I feed him is in feeding mode for atleast 2-3 hours. He's all high strung looking for more mice.

Yep.. I walked past my burm's cage a few hours after I gave him a *huge* rat, and he slammed the glass trying to bite me.

Re: roxy bit me !
I have never had a snake bite, but i just got 3 hatchlings, so i'm sure that it will happen. I have always fed out of their enclosures, and never had a problem with it, but, there are a lot diffrent opinions on this.

Perhaps. What do you think snakes eat on in the wild? Digesting (or passing) a bit of wood shavings or a bark piece. (which doesn't happen that much anyways) won't harm your snake. They have killer digestive acid.

Owning snakes you live and learn.
Next time you won't do that!

You can always lay down a sheet of newspaper on top of the substrate just for feeding.

Re: roxy bit me !
Think about the fact that snake's have such strong digestive acids that they can completely consume hair, bones and teeth (and even fire can't completely destroy teeth!) A bit of stray aspen isn't likely to do any damage but like it's been suggested, if you are worried, lay down a pad of newspaper.
Putting your warm hand in front of the business end of a feeding snake is a great way to get bite. :)
