Silly Nesting Rat!
OK, I'm still dying from anticipation for the birth of my first litter of rats, as Scarlett still hasn't had them, so I'm assuming she's about 22 days now.
She began some serious nesting this evening, but looked at me like - can I PLEASE have some more tissue? So, of course I obliged. Her nest is next to the water bottle, and she's just shoved a great deal of the tissue UP and BEHIND her water bottle, almost to the lid of the viv.
Shhhhh....gotta be vewwy, vewwy quiet, we don't want a noisy water bottle to disturb the new babies on the way! :D

Hehehe, she got relegated back to the living room, and the silent crestie enclosure was relocated to the bedroom!

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
Rab, all this talking and no pictures? You do realize that us BP.neters require photos to survive?

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
I'm going to take pictures this evening - because......we have BABIES!!!!
Karl tiptoed into the bedroom about 12:30 last night and whispered "wake up! She's having her babies!!!"
So, I got to see her have a few of them, but she seemed a little disturbed by the audience, so we left her alone.
This morning she came off of them to greet me and I tried in very low light (Karl's brother is in town for one night and on the couch) to do a head count. There's at least 10 babies, but probably more! :D

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
Congrats on your first rat litter Robin! Can't wait to see pics and hear the head count once you've had a chance to check over the litter tonight. Glad she did well on her first go round.

Oh and then you can smile ever so wisely (assuming you've remembered to put in your "good" teeth for the grandkiddies visit that is) and dispense those ever so lovely, albeit slightly lint covered Worther's Originals from your house dress pocket.

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
Just remember though dear it's NOT nice to dig in one's droopy cleavage and drag out a slightly wrinkled, old lady red lippie stick smeared kleenex and scrub away at one's grandkiddies face. ESPECIALLY IF THE KID IS 15 AND HER NEW BOYFRIEND IS STANDING RIGHT THERE!!!! *pant pant whimper*
(errrr I have issues :taz: )

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
hahaha....Jo....you slipped from Paradise into "Old Granny Hell"...... let's get you some help, dear! :P

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
Woohoo Robin! Babies are awesome! If the action I've seen in my older pair is any indication I should have babie pics in the next month as well!.

Geeze Robin you don't get the connection between nesting rats and grannies with kleenex down their cleavage....heavens! (bless your heart! :P )
Now hurry home from work and get us some pics before we are old grannies! LOL

Re: Silly Nesting Rat!
Congrats Robin!! Rat babies are great....I found them to be just as addicting as BP's, (yet much cheaper...)
One tip...Don't get attached to the babies, they are so cute, but they have a purpose in the big picture!! Its hard...trust me...

Interestingly enough, the first thing I thought was "snake food"! when they were being born. However, I do plan to hold back at least one from her, maybe 2 (1.1). I did want to hold one from her and one from Mrs. Snuggles, who hasn't shown any signs of pregnancy yet. We'll see how they develop.
I'm starting a new thread for PICTURES!!!!
