    The Anticipation's KILLING Me!
Scarlett is due to have her first litter (and my first Grand-rats) any day now! If she got pregnant when first introduced to Caesar - she'd be 22 days along. If she got pregnant on the day I observed some good lovin', then she's 20 days along.

I called Karl while I was at work today - any bebes????

He calls me while he's at work this evening - any bebes????

I can't wait to see how many bebe's my little chunky monkey has - and I'm sure the snakes can't wait either! :D

Both of my females have litters right now. The second litter arrived yesterday. You'll know you have babies when you hear the squeaking. ;)

Problem is, she's in the bedroom - last night she was drinking water and we both woke up and Karl puts the pillow over his head and in his best whiney voice goes "make it stooooooppppp!!!!!" LOL

You're sooooo gonna hate life when the babies come then. :giggle: Those little things squeak A LOT! I could hear them from two rooms away.

Best of luck to your female... if this is her first litter, I hope she catches on and takes good care of them... that definately doesn't include eating your own babies.

Yep usually the first 3 days or so are the absolute worst as pinks are very demanding and won't shut up unless momma rat gives them constant access to the boobies LOL. When I walk into the rat room I can always tell if one of my female's dropped her litter by the newborn screams for momma milk momma milk NOW! LOL Once they get a few days of solid feeds into them most of my litters quieten down pretty good other than the occasional squeeking argument over who got the best nipple LOL.

Some of my smarter, more experienced breeder females will even haul their food dish over and set up their nest right beside the water bottle so they can snack and sip while in their nest nursing their demanding pinks. I always find it funny that they are such dedicated mothers at first and then by a week before weaning they are begging me to remove them from the maternity tanks. I think by then, with a litter of active pups, they are pretty much sick to death of them LOL.

Karl called me this morning - "either the rat goes, or I go!". She woke him up again with the water bottle! LOL I guess I need to re-locate her somewhere!

Either that or buy him a good set of earplugs. I'd move her though. If the water bottle wakes him up that easily, he'll go nuts trying to sleep through the pinkie rat litter hollering for mamma! LOL

Gotta love breeding the rat's Robin , I never thought I would enjoy it so much. I've already breed 125 babie's and I finally got a lite blue hooded boy which is defintly a keeper. I have 6 girl's right now and all of them have babie's.

I swear Emilio I love the rat colony as much as the snake collection. Rats are just very cool to work with (and the wonderful benefit of excellent food for the snakes can't be beat lol). I envy you that light blue hooded (probably an American Blue if it's very light in color). I'd like that color and pattern in our colony but unfortunately the only American Blue male I ever found was a self, turned out to be infertile and was put down due to his highly aggressive nature (he turned on and almost killed another male in a very vicious and unprovoked attack).

Yep they sure are. I'm always amazed at what can pop out of the same pairing and suddenly...bingo...different looking baby LOL.
