Who has helped a snake in your collection shed?
I wanted to know who has helped a snake in your collection shed.It can be a full shed or just half a shed. Then how big was this snake you helped shed.I have helped numerous snakes over the years either shed them a full shed or just the tails. My largest snake i have helped shed was my large albino burm in the 12ft range.

The only time I've helped mine is when they have pieces of stuck shed that I really need to get off (like on their head) when it doesn't come off with the next shed. I give them a warm soak and then just rub the stuck shed and it comes right off!

The first time my corn ever shed I was actually holding him at the time.

I kept watching him press his face into the palm of my hand and suddenly he broke the shed. I helped peel it back.

21' tiger retic...one of our big girls. Thank goodness she's a total doll, temperament-wise! :) That's the biggest one I've worked on, anyway. I've hand-shed just about every species we keep at one point or another for whatever reason.

I've had to assist a couple of my new arrivals that hadn't had proper care previously as well as one of my own that was just wonky.

No biggie. She's a great snake...one of those that defines why retics *can* be fun to keep.

Of course, there was a confiscated cobra we had to take several retained tail sheds off of...now THAT was an adventure! ;) Thank goodness for restraining tubes & very competent help!

I took in a snake that had a completely retained shed, and was housed in horrible conditions. The water was slightly solid and pink for heaven's sake! Anyway, 24 hours in my house saw her rid of it. :D

Re: Who has helped a snake in your collection shed?
Largest I"ve had to help shed was my black blood python. Vet orders: No soaking, so her big water bowl was changed for a smaller one that she could not fit into and her humidity shriveled. It's the only time she's ever offered a snap at me, but she'd already had her belly scrubbed, gotten a shot and I'd been working on the stuck shed on her face...she'd had enough.

Re: Who has helped a snake in your collection shed?
Hand shedding a blood python does not sound like an enjoyable experience....mine bites for fun during regular handling!

I've helped ball pythons shed numerous times. I've got one that I help shed repeatedly. All the other snakes around her shed perfectly, but for some reason she will never complete a shed...leaving most of her head and neck. Maybe that's just her thing?

Re: Who has helped a snake in your collection shed?
    I helped 2 of my BP's shed.

Nag was about 4 months or so when I got him, and his first shed with me was BAD! it took me 7 days and a pair of tweezers (and a very tolerant snake) to pick off everything that got left on

Nagaina had a bad shed a few weeks ago, and once again I sat down with her and some tweezers. she wasnt so tolerant as Nag, but she wasnt as bad as he was either. took me a few days with her as well.
