    Your first job
I'm curious what everyone's first job was. Also, when we get our first jobs most of us are able to finally get something you've always wanted. So, what was your first job and first major item you bought from the rewards of working?

Mine was I used to work for a guy across the street from my house. He restored cars and he also worked for Mattel and painted Hot Wheels. My first major item I bought and REALLY worked for was my American made Jackson Rhoads V with a pile of skull paint job.

The first job I had was as a waitress as a Ponderosa restaurant. I lasted all of about 2 weeks. I was painfully shy.

The first thing I saved up to buy with money I earned myself was a pair of leather riding boots. I was working in a riding school at the time doing barn work and helping out with lessons.

"First job" or first PAYING job????? lol

My first job was feeding calves on my grandfather's dairy, but I didn't get a paycheck.

My first PAYING job was as a dishwasher/gofer for a local restaurant during the busy season of pheasant season. I washed dishes & potatoes, wrapping the potatoes in tinfoil for baking. After a few weeks, I bussed tables, helped the waitresses w/getting the salads and free dessert (sherbet) dishes and ran the register for a few nights.

The money earned went towards gas for my truck, and to my mom for the family necessities.

I had several gardening and landscaping jobs, but the first job at an actual business was working at a lumber yard when I was 15.

I mostly saved money to buy people stuff for Christmas, I always bought a few packs of baseball cards here and there, but my first major purchase was a cd player when I was 17, and it arrived broken so I had to fix it lol.

My first job was a 14 in a local family run restaurant running the dish tank. My first major purchase was a large, pinwheel crystal lidded candy dish for my grandmother. When she passed away my eldest daughter inherited it. :)

My actuall first job, which really didnt pay much, was walking through bean fields and cutting the corn out of them. Never made enough money to do anything with.

But what I would consider my first real job was as a fry cook at the local "Tastee Freeze". Made a whopping $2.15 an hour. Was able to save up and buy my very first car....a 1967 Ford Fairlane.

My first job was a waitress...from which I got fired. I think the money from it only bought gas and lunches at school.

My second job was at university, but the money went to pay for school.

My third job was working for my dad for the summer, doing grunt work for his construction company.

My fourth job was working as a clerk at JCPenneys - still really didn't buy anything big.

My fifth job was working at another university (transferred after my 1st year); while I don't remember buying anything big, it "gave" me my love for computers and mapping, which is what I do for a living now.

My sixth and still current after 12 years job is working for a software company; the day I got the phone call I was hired, I bought myself a *real* bed; no more sleeping on what I had been sleeping for 22 years!

I got my first job when I was twelve, answering phones on the weekend where my dad worked (kinda under the counter sorta thing... only paid $25 a week, but that was great money for a twelve year old).

Second was as a receptionist at a hair salon in high school. Used the money to purchase my fave vehicle: my blue Jeep Wrangler. Still miss that thing.

Great post and answers all :gj:

My first job was at a reptile store at age 10. I could not have been happier and my first purchase was an adult ball python. Those where good times, back in the late 80s and early 90s I got to see some really neat imports. I worked there for 6 years until girls and cars came around

My first job was when I just turned 14 working at Aristo drycleaners pin tagging folks clothes to be cleaned and working the counter. I made a whopping 1.60 hr and the first thing I bought was a stereo. That job lasted about 3 mos.

My next job was when I was 15 I worked at the local animal hosp. cleaning the kennels and hosp and walking the dogs, helping the vet hold down the unruly. I use to get to watch him do surgery and he taught me to do X-rays and such. With that I bought my first car a 67 Ford Fairlane GT

I babysat as a preteen; then worked for Tops Markets as a cashier and later deli and cheese shop worker from 1999 to '05.. I bought myself a leather jacket that I still wear! (this was around 2000.) I also bought my friend a car, since I had no license at the time and we could not hang out if she had no wheels!

I worked on a chicken farm. Saved enough to get a '65 Mustang Coupe. My dad helped me restore it. I left for the Army and my Mom totaled it while I was gone. I've been trying for the past 15 years trying to get another one. Thanks Mom!

I'm glad someone else finally said babysitting. I did this a lot, but only ever managed to spend my money on my little sisters.

Well if we include non paying jobs then my first job ever was helping my farmer neighbor load his sale pigs and calves and helping my other neighbor muck out the stalls in their standardbred barn.

    :)

Who on earth would have to pay me to be around horses? :p

I forgot; i also used to help out at a family friends' horse stable; learned to ride there, as well as did general chores such as mucking, grooming, tack cleaning. Wasn't paid in dollars, but being around horses at that time, was worth much more than any money would have been.

My first job was working in a large supermarket depot - in the cold store. One of my least favourite part sof this job was having to empty bags of rotten fruit into a dumpster, had to climb right in there and stank of rotting melon for hours.
