Re: Displaying Snake Shed
I'm looking for ideas too...I have an absolutely gorgeous perfect shed that I can't bear to throw away but can't figure out how to use.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
i always go to Walmart, get laminating paper, pt a few sheets down together, put my skin on top of it, laminate it, and put it on a wall or something.
You can also use clear tape
hope this helps
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
I know they tend to get very brittle once they start to dry out. I would think the clear contact paper (shelf paper) would be a good thing to try, but probably kinda hard. I guess the best way would be buy a piece of glass (if its not too long of a shed) and make a frame for it and sandwich the shed in it, but probably a little pricy unless you just really like the idea.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
I have an idea. Get a 12x12 frame thats 1 1/2 inches deep or however thick the snake is, and pin down the tail of the snake in the center and slowly coil around itself. Might look sorta cool. Since it's in a frame no hands could touch it, and dust would never touch it.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
i hadnt even thought of coiling it up :P great idea.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
It would look cool, it would save space and it would protect it from being messed with.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
I'm thinking some kind of mothballs would need to be included to protect against dust mites, as with insect collections. I like the coiling idea...will have to try it with one that's still flexible.
This one I've got, I can blow int he mouth and the whole thing inflates like a cond...erm, balloon. It's absolutely flawless. I wish there was a 3D way to show it off.
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
:lmao: I have some complete ones, but I can't blow them up.....
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
I have some draped over this little shelf in my kitchen.. I will have to get a pic. Only me..
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
If you have an airbrush and a compressor, you can cover spray the skin with several coats of "Future" (Floor Finish acrylic) diluted 50% with water. This will seal the skin.

Beat me too it......
This is similar to the process used to 'mount' snake skins.
Google "taxidermy" and you can find tons on ways of preserving animal parts ;)
Re: Displaying Snake Shed
Thanks for all the replies! :D Lots of good info. I'll keep looking into it and see what I can do and take some pics when I've found something that works...
