    Ever Eaten Cat?
    okay, so i went to a chinese reasturaunt today, and i asked for Burbon chicken, she repeated, "burbon chicken?" and i said yes, and when she gave it to me, she told me that it was burbon chicken, and the sauce was burbon..but uhm..that was not chicken.
    It did not look like pork either. and beef has a really distinct taste to me...
    I have no idea what it was...
    The people at the reasturaunt are fishy to me (i have sceen them smoking in the back of the kitchen). Dont as me why i went there, i was just craving it, and they have food for 5$...
    and ovcourse, in the middle of me eating it i showed my dad, and he sat there and went, "meow! rawr. woof"
    so...now im kinda creaped out..

    On my two year stint in Thailand I consumed a variety of strange meats including

    dog (both jerky, and freshly cooked);
    cat (I didn't know it at the time, but found out afterward);
    bat (deep fried, you eat the whole thing including bones, not bad really);
    rat (captured from rice paddies, prepared and roasted on bamboo skewers);
    raw spiced pork strips and entrails with raw pig blood poured on top (not recommended);
    almost every insect and arachnid you could imagine fried, and some pickled;
    along with all the "normal" foods - squid, octopus, etc.

    I am always willing to try something once, and I'm glad I did. Most of the above meats were actually pretty good given that they were prepared well. The only things that I avoided were those that I knew were illegally gotten/killed like turtle, snake and other native wildlife, most of which are protected by laws that are not enforced very heavily.

    I spent time in Bangkhae, Lamluga, and Bangkapi which are parts of Bangkok. Most of my culinary exploration was up-country though in Ubon, Phitsanulok, and Chiang Mai. I would love to go back and dive around Phuket though. Thailand just has so many things to do and see (and eat :D)!

    I think we're all so mental about food , Look at us as a nation cow's are sacred in india and we practicaly live off of them here. Also while Asian's look alot less musucular or full ,they are alot more healthy and live longer than us on their diet's. Hay I havn't made it a priority but I think I'll try most of all that stuff one day. Rat's etc.(In an Asian country) Gotta go where they know how to make it.

    I have a really hard time with escargot and grubs though raw fish seems to be no problem lol. Go figure!

    grubs i dont know if i could handle escargot i can. raw fish isnt a problem either. I remember when i was like 5, we were at a reasturaunt, and instead of ordering chicken fingers like every other kid, i ordered muscles. I have always been a curious eater.

    I don't see anything wrong with it, other than misrepresentation.. if they say it's chicken, and it's not.. they should be shut down, fined, and put out of business.

    Probably eaten cat and/or dog through unknown food - and I'm not too concerned about it. I'd rather not eat cat, that is to say, I don't think I could ever eat it intentionally.

    Dog meat, sure...when in Rome. I work with a Korean who says that chow chow is a delicacy in Korea...so, if I was there, I'd have to try it.

    Weirdest things I've knowingly eaten: buffalo (quite tasty!) and possum (long story).

    Weird things I love that most people don't: all the really ooky sushi things (sea urchin, salmon eggs, scallops), raw oysters (only eaten when I smell the ocean cuz otherwise, it can't be fresh), anchovies (YUM!).

    Normal things most people LOVE and I can't STAND!!!:
    milk
    bananas

    Both should rot in hell - YECH!

    I Love seafood of most types.. mmmm. Even caviar. But I don't as a general rule eat anything raw; I am too scared of food poisoning after seeing my mom nearly die from it, and contracting mild cases of it myself over the years.. but yet why is it OK in my mind.. to lick the cake batter made with raw egg.. b/c it tastes good like chocolate!!

    I like bananas, but i have this thing where i cant hear people chewing, it is just so gross to me, i dont know what it is. I hate eating with people now...and with bananas, oh my lord, grossest thing to hear somebody chew. I can't even eat them anymore it grosses me out to hear that noise.
    oh well...i'll have to get over it one day...babies eating baby food is no diffrent than eating a banana....

    oh, and make sure that you have plenty of calcium if you wont drink milk. You know the white lines in nails? it can be caused by a calcium diffiency, or so i've heard...

    I personally would not eat something I’ve owned as a pet or most predators. I don’t eat felines (wild or domesticated), canines (wild or domesticated), reptiles of any kind, horse, sharks in any sense, and I’m sure there are others not listed.

    I’ll eat most herbivorous animals excluding horse and most cuts of beef. I’d try a rat or a squirrel if offered. I don’t eat fish because I don’t like it. I LOVE calamari but nobody can cook it right around here (including me) so I rarely get it. I'd like to try eel.

    I think my favorite meat is elk however. Those are just so tastey I can hardly stand it. And chicken, I loooove chicken.

    As it is I mostly eat veggies, fruit, and breads/pasta.

    Caribou in jerky sauce = awesome
    Alligator = good..tastes like chicken
    Ostrich = tasty
    Calamari (squid) = fantastic if prepared properly I don't care too much for deep fried suckers, you chew forever and then get hardly any taste.

    I almost ordered horse steak when I was in Germany, didn't quite realize it was horse at the time. I probably would have tried it if i'd been there longer.

    Hey Evan, did you try tarantula? They roast them over in Asia.

    my husband takes classes in okinawan kempo and weaponry--with some of the things they do to eachother i wouldn't think they'd be the longest lived!

    i've probably had cat and/dog. i've eaten some pretty mysterious looking and tasting meats...ew. i don't really eat out of the ordinary things normally though. i ate a groundhog/squirrel/possum burger one time--didn't know that's what it was until afterwards, but it was grilled over charcoal and not too bad really.

    bananas, ew. raisins, ew. regular milk...ok occassionally if rice milk isn't available, but definitely not preferred.

    I had fried and roasted tarantula, as well as fried scorpion. Neither were as tasty as the other terrestrial arthropods I had. I didn't think to identify them before eating them, but I think that the tarantulas were Haplopelma albostriatum, and the scorpions were defintely Heterometrus sp.
