    omg she escaped!!!
i woke up this morning and i saw that my blood had escaped!! i need help finding her.i've already tried looking for her in my room but i cant seem to find her.idk if shes in my room because there is a small space between the bottom or my door and the floor so it's a possibility that she might've gotten out.i tried looking around the house but nothing.i remember reading that they'll most likely go somewhere dark or warm.the only thats emitting heat right now is my BP's light and my pc.the temp in my house is 66 degrees farenheit.and the other thing thats bothering me is that my cat is also in the house so im afraid that she might hurt my snake, but then again she might have better luck finding her for me.
please dont ask me just yet where i had her etc, my main concern is that i find her before anything bad happens to her.i'll keep looking for her and check back to see what you guy suggest i should do.

i feel like a complete idiot!!! and i should!!

Chances are high that she hasn't gone far from her enclosure at all. Start from there and work your way out in very thorough, methodical circles of search. Check every single little nook, cranny, crack, crevice, or hole she could have gotten into, under, through, behind. If you think it's too tight or too small....check it!!! As big, clunky humans, we simply cannot comprehend how small a space they can squeeze through...and they often prefer just such tight quarters.

ok thanx i'll try that method.btw do you think she could've climbed up somewhere or do you think she'd most likely stay on the floor?

Good question. I'd not rule out the possibility of her climbing. Bloods are terrestrial snakes, but so are BP's, and they'll still climb things, especially when they are young. So keep that in mind for your search pattern.

Yep look UNDER and behind everything you can - bloods are very terrestrial. How long has it been out - ie how far through the house do you think it could have gone? make sure you check your closet and under the fridge!

im not sure how long shes been out.i KNOW she got out during the night because i looked at her just before i went to sleep around 11pm and i woke up at 7:30 am this morning.im assuming shes still in my room but i practically took my room apart and i havent found her.i took out everything in my closet and didnt find anything.i'll check under the fridge right now.my main concern is that shes most likely not in my room and somewhere else in the house.im constantly keeping an eye out for my cat in case i see her "playing" with my blood.

Definitely watch the cat. Maybe even bring her into your room and see if she starts nosing around any particular corner or something.

Make sure you're using a flashlight for looking under or in between those tight places - one of our female 06 BP's got out and only on the third pass using a flashlight did i see her under some shelves - the previous two times I looked right past her.

yeah i did that earlier today but she just sniffed around and left.

is there any way that i can "draw out" my blood? like with water or something?

    Some things to try...

Get a thawed mouse/rat (whatever she eats) and set it on a plate in the doorway of the room you suspect she is in. Then get a blowdryer and blow warm air across the rodent and into the room. This should waft warm yummy rodent scents into the room and MIGHT draw the snake out of hiding if she's hungry.

Place a heating pad with a hide on it somewhere near her enclosure where she can get to it. Maybe you'll find her curled up in the hide in a day or two.

Place plastic grocery bags all along the edges of the rooms you frequent and that she might be in. Stay alert for the tell-tale rustling of the bags when she starts to move.

Sprinkle flour along wall edges and doorways, then later check for trails that might lead you to her hiding spot.

Place a thawed rodent in a small box on a heating pad along a wall in the room you think it most likely she is in. Maybe you'll find a fat snake in the box the next day.

Of course, I've no idea which of these methods are practical for your particular house...especially with a cat. But use your imagination and I'm sure you can come up with other ways to search and lure.

ok thank you!! i'll try some of these and see what happens.

hopefully i find her before my mom gets home from work because if i dont...she'll go crazy and will most likely have trouble sleeping.but then again if she finds her for me...i just have to listen for her scream:cool: .

    Re: omg she escaped!!!
in hindsight... i realize my cat kept revisiting the area where my two snakes had escaped to (under our 90 gallon fish tank) - so watch your cat... not for where it sits and stares for a long time, but for a spot there it may go and sniff and then leave... cause it may be checking "are you still there?" kinda thing!

As for the cat as a search tool- I have to laugh at that, I had a BP that would get out no matter how secure I thought the enclosure was and my oldest cat would find him every time- always within a few fet of the tank. She would sit in front of where he was hiding and "meep" (I now have solid tops on ALL of my enclosures!)

Sucks when you lose them, but great when you find them. I had a corn snake that always got out. I would always find him in my sock drawer.

glad you found her! I have never had a snake escape (knocks on wood), but i'm sure it is quite nerve wracking.

Wow! Good thing you found her. I think most of the snake keepers had that happen to them. I lost my Albino Burmese for three months and I finally found her outside of my house in a really cold night right infront of my door, as if she was waiting for me to open the door for her. I also had a friend loose a ball python for 6 months and found her, believe it or not. That was the worst feeling when I saw her cage empty. I know exactly how you felt. :(

I don't know I would say that most snake keepers have had that happen to them - I've got fifteen ball pythons, the most I've had were seventeen - I've never had an escape. I know more people that haven't lost a snake than those that do.

To the OP - I'm very glad to hear that you've had a happy ending!

Whew, I love happy endings. =)

I'm with Robin; we've had Cleo and Carmen now for almost a year and for as much as they try, neither has managed to escape. I'd like to keep it that way!
