Re: Herp. Shop Pix.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
The snake in the middle is definitely a normal corn snake.

There are some cute balls there.
They probably are always left like that. You can't sell snakes people can't see.
Though my local petco does have a hide in with their balls... then again they also have one with a retained shed so ya can't give them much praise.

Is it just me or is that water bowl empty as well? Anyway, not a place I would wanna make a bp purchase from anytime soon... ;)
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
Sorry about the corn snake....i am not familiar with them, so you are probably right.
No, the BPs aren't left like that all the time. They just had that clutch recently, so the babys are still together, they sepearate them into 3-5 diffrent tanks, depending on the size of the clutch. Next time i go, they will be separated...they usually move them within a week or so.
The main snake keeper there is really cool. Has a looot of snakes, some cool lookin venomous ones too. I've only sceen pix, i'll see if i can get any for you all.

the water bowl does look empty, buttt i remember seeing water in it. could be the angle of the picture.
I have never gotten a BP from them, but i also have never heard any complaints about any of their snakes.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
You can see the glare of water in that picture, it looks a bit over half full to me.
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
that's what i thought. they are ones to take care of their animals..from what i can tell
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
the pile of balls do look cute, i wanna hold them
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
oh i know, me too. I want to hold the monitor. my fav. guy...buttt 2 of the employees have BIG scars from him. so i think i'll hold out on that. lol.

They could do a lot better in my opinion. Leaving those poor bps like that even for a short while is a big no no in my book. Sure they look cute cuddled together like that. But that would be just us anthropomorphizing them. In the bp world, one ball coiling up on top of another is its way of exerting dominance over the other. Also, I doubt five tanks will be enough to house all of those individually. I just want you to know that I'm not being difficult here. There are lots of pet stores across the nation that provide much worse care for their bps. I just feel that it is my obligation to speak up when I see something that is less than par treatment of bps, and I do not want new comers to think that this is "ok" treatment of bps or other snakes in general.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
It's really too bad that stores have to have the balls on display all the time. If I had a store I would really try to think of a way they could have a hide and still be viewable (if that is a word). Whether it be taking individual pics and displaying those instead, or making hides where one wall is a piece of paper taped on the outside of the tank that you can lift up to view the hiding snake, I would think of something that would be a good compromise between the snake and the success of my business.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
Whether correct or not.......stores keep the BP's together......however I dont know of many stores that keep them in stock for long so that is a plus!
Good pics, even with a cam phone......LOL
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
Lol thanks. It was a bit hectic, a lady with like 7 children came into the store. haha. trying to keep their little hands off of all of the tanks was quite a challenge for the poor women.
Yeah, it would be nice to have the BPs so they could hide, but still be sceen, thats how i would like to do it too, but for most people, business is business.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
On a side note, this is so weird, I was just at that exact store last Sunday when my friend brought me with him, to buy his Brazilian Rainbow Boa, beauty of a snake, but that place was awesome. wish we had a nice reptile place here in tally.

Hey Amy, I live in Edgwater about 25 minutes south of Daytona Beach. You think you could give me some directions on finding that place? I too want to check out all those corns... Hell I will go tonight!
-
Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
Oh awesome! I love that place, I dont know if you saw him, and i forget his name, but the guy with the long black hair, he is so great. Has a lot of venomous snakes at his apartment (i've never been though. I really dont want to deal with anything that can kill me. lol). Really knows his stuff.

Oh great! Yup...I am horrible with directions, but here are some from mapquest:
http://www.mapquest.com/directions/m...911&panelbtn=2
They are open untill 6pm. They used to be open untill 9, but they just changed it.
Have a good time! They have some amazing corns, you are not alloud to open the racks by yourself, but they are awesome people, and are more than willing to accomidate you. And, there is a big sign on the rack telling you that anyways. haha.
Have fun!! I hope you get some corns! Post some pix when/if you do!!

Yeah, someone else told me that too. I thought that corn snake would have been in with the other corns, thats why i didnt remember what it was, and im not good at IDing them, i know little-nothing about corns.

Re: Herp. Shop Pix.
Not bad as compared to most of the stores I have seen.. but the BP conditions upset me. See, it does not have to be like that. Try Markheim Pets, in Buffalo NY.. they have awesome individual caging for their BPs, with nice secure hides. When a serious customer comes in wanting to buy, they gladly unlock the cage and show you the animal. Unlike most pet stores, they are in it for the serious shopper, not just to be a free zoo for people to take their rugrats for entertainment at the expense of the animals. I would encourage them to take $40 and a few hours of their time and build a simple hatchling rack; seems fine for their cornsnakes.. and the boas; were they always housed together?
