Should I be upset?
So, I was moving a few snakes into larger tubs the other night (at 2:00 AM no less, what am I a loser? ) and I decide to see if our male mojave is producing sperm yet. He's only 400 grams or so, but I was curious. Well, no sperm plugs, and what's this, no hemipenes. So I pop again, nothing. I think back a few months to when I got him in, and I don't recall verifying the sex when "he" arrived. I was a little baffled, and thought "maybe I'm just too tired, I'll try again in the morning". So I wake up and try again, nothing. I even probed "him" to verify my findings even though popping a 400 gram ball isn't that tough...4 scales. I don't know if I should be upset or not. "He" may have bred late this season, but I wasn't counting on it, and now I have a jump on producing some super mojaves, so I think I'm OK with it. I definitely would be mad if I wanted a female and got a male. I guess I have to get a male now though, which I think I'm OK with too (any excuse to get more balls is a good excuse right!! :D). So what do you all think about my predicament?

Hope you get some supers in the coming seasons.

Re: Should I be upset?
i agree. i'd be more upset if it were the other way around (got a male instead of a female).
but what's really important... is how does this affect your breeding plans?

Re: Should I be upset?
I wish all of my expensive male bp's turn out to be females...LOL

Re: Should I be upset?
You got a female for a male I be stoked. Unless you really needed a male to breed to your females. Its when you pay for a female and get a little snitzle insteed that would upset me. :taz:
If your cool with it then rock on

But wouldn't the "right thing" to do be to contact the breeder and let him/her know about the mistake? .... I don't think I'd be able to sleep until I at least tried to make things right ... If that meant sending her back in exchange for a male of equal size or for a refund of the value of a male of that size, I'd have to do it.
I believe that karam has a way of squaring things up in the long run, and I wouldn't want that one biting me later.
But maybe that's just me. :confuzd:

You make a good point if I got the female then who is fumming cause they got the male insteed. Or even worse they might not know. I would most certinaly (sp) get in touch with the breeder. I mean I would want some one to do that to me if I was the breeder.

I agree Adam! The first thing I did was contact the breeder, but I haven't heard back from him. This was a trade deal, and I know he doesn't have any more males left, but we'll see what happens.

Hrmmm, don't have much to add. But I hope it turns out to be a win:win type of thing :)

Re: Should I be upset?
Evan that is very nice to know that you were honest and tried to make contact with the seller on his mistake. I think most would keep hush hush about a mistake that happened in their favor (sorta like finding a purse with a hundred bucks in it...what do you do? turn it in or keep it?)
As Adam said...Karma...you will have a lot of good in the end.

It must be something in the air because last night I checked on all of my snakes to make sure none were like my butter was and decided to sex a pastel I got back in June. I never sexed it when it arrived since I bought a male and thought nothing of it. Talk about a nice surprise. It probes and pops female.:carrot:
I wouldn't be upset about the mojave. It's very rare that you get a female instead of a male. It's usually the other way around.:D Sounds like you got a great deal on "him" but if you decide to let him go, I know of a female pastel that might want to meet him.:D

I wonder if we got the animals from the same breeder. LOL. I'd hate for him to open up his email today and find out he sold 2 different male morphs to 2 different people that turned out to be female.:O

LOL Yeah, he would probably rethink the method he uses to sex.

Re: Should I be upset?
Well, the breeder just got back to me and apologized for the mix-up. He's still fine with the trade, so we're going to keep her! I'm stoked to have another girl around, and I still have plenty of time to plan for her breeding future. Sheesh, now what do I do with these extra breedable females this season.....:D

I couldn't agree more!
Just as when I bought my first females, the seller contacted me 2 days later, very upset, because he thought he may have sent me a male instead of a female. He didn't have to tell me - but he went out of his way to inform me and correct the situation (I got to keep the male, who became Sullivan and replaced him with another female of my choice - Pandora).
That act alone made me a repeat customer. He could have said nothing (at the time, I did not know how to probe or pop).
I would do the same thing if I purchased a male and found out it was female, contact the seller and inform them and work out a mutually agreeable resolution.

Re: Should I be upset?
Looks like you got a better response than I did when I contacted the breeder about my missexed snake.:(
