Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Im considering getting a crestie or a few and I just wanted to get ideas for enclosures. So if any of you crestie owners could post pics of your setups, that would greaty help:D. Thanks in advance.

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I hear tall aquariums work well...
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I have too... where would one find a tall enclosure?

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
i have no photos of my setups. how sad is that? here is a close-up of how i do perches (polyurethaned bamboo) and (fake) vines in my adult enclosures:
http://www.cookreptiles.com/availabl...supports02.jpg
i use the crested cages that reptile depot makes--they are screen on the top and front, pvc on the bottom and back, and acrylic on the sides. i use paper towels as substrate and put egg crates and empty paper towel tubes on the bottom of cages for hides. the egg crates also hold plastic deli cups of food and water (the 1oz cups fit perfectly into the egg crate slots/egg holders.
for hatchlings and juvies i use varying sizes of kritter keepers depending on the size of the gecko. they have paper towel substrate, egg crates for hiding and climbing and a sprig of fake vines.
here are some photos of the setups that sarah milroy (crested lady) uses:

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
this is the enclosure that i use for adults and subadults: http://reptiledepot.com/reptprices.html (the last one on the page--the "crested gecko enclosure."
you can also use something like a 20 gallon tall aquarium or one of the exo-terra cages (http://reptiledepot.com/Exoglass.html).

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Bump! And also: where the heck do I even get the actual Cresties? None of the stores around me have them, so some websites would help. :giggle:
EDIT: I see that Reptiledepot.com has them. Has anyone gotten any from them?

Nice setup! I think I'm going to order one of those Crestie cages.

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
They would be much EZier to f/w in!!! That's why I attached all the climbies to the screen lid, I can just lift the top and have almost everything out of the way to change the paper towles etc..............
BEST of LUCK getting the setup and the little "dragon" to go in it! lol We'll haft to see pix!!!! :D

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Hehe thanks.
Would it be advisable to get two?(If I did, I would get two females)
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
the number of cresteds you get is totally up to you. if you want more than one, then yes, they do all need to be females if you are going to house them together. a single male can live by himself just fine too.
keep in mind that females are more expensive than males. if you need a recommendation of where to get a male, well, let's just say i know someone who has a lot of extras they'd be willing to let go of... ;) :P
laooda, my first crested tank was a tall aquarium like yours. it was really hard to reach to the bottom of the tank for feeding and cleaning so it wasn't long before i switched to the reptile depot cages. :)

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Ok, cool. I've got a good amount of money right now, so price isn't an issue unless each female is gonna cost 500 bucks. :P I think it would be really neat to have two or three that are all different color morphs.
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
ha, well generally speaking females are about $150 and up, depending on morph/color/age/etc. :)

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I think I've picked out most of my stuff. Two questions: Do they need hides? And what do you use to hold up the vines in a glass tank? Suction cups? Sticky tack?
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
i do provide hides on the floor of my cages. some cresteds seem to prefer to sleep in the hides while others sleep in the vines and hide themselves under the leaves. definitely don't use anything sticky in the cage. you can use suction cups (often they come with the fake vines that pet stores sell). i use small zip ties to fasten the vines to the perches in my adult cages.

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I provide hides as well, although currently they are hiding under their paper towels. I also provide a shallow water dish that they love to hide under as well.

Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I've made a list of what I'm going to buy and have ready before I get my Crestie(s.) How's it look thus far?
Cage: (crestie cage at the bottom) http://reptiledepot.com/reptprices.html
(I'll have vines and such in there too)
Food/water: http://www.pangeareptile.com/deluxeledge.htm
and if that food/water isn't a good idea: http://www.pangeareptile.com/Images/...ves/big800.jpg
Substrate: paper towell :carrot:
Food: T-Rex Crestie Superfood
Hide:http://www.bigappleherp.com/Rock-Dens?sc=2&category=7
I may also add a humid hide, or should I make that one a humid hide?
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Looks like your all set to look for the cresties:D
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
What size hide should I get(From that link)? I can't imagine they're snuggly and may want their space... would a medium be good? Or a small?
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
Cresties can get 9 inches... (if what I read is correct) so I'd get one that will suport the size!
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
cresteds like tighter spaces than you might think. imagine 3 adult females crammed into an empty paper towel roll one on top of the other... that's pretty tight. :P get something that is big enough for them to fit into but won't be too open around the gecko when it is inside.
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
LOL! That would be a great pix!!!! :P
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
yeah it would! for a minute i couldn't figure out what was going on the first time i saw them all crammed into the tube together. wait okay, there's a tail, there's a snout, a foot, is that another tail...? how many of you are in there!? :D
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
lol!! Ok, I think I will get the medium one, it's 7x8x3H. That should be good for two females.
-
Re: Enclosure ideas, please post pics.
I went to my local Petco earlier. They have both juvie and adult Cresties(few bucks difference); all with full tails. They were up and about when I was there and were eating some crickets and baby food that was in there. I talked to the girl working there and she knew a lot about the snakes and geckos there. I was impressed! She handled them as if they were actually living things(not toys, as posted in an earleir thread.)
I think I will get my Cresties there, as they have some at the age where gender can be checked and they are all looking quite good.
So if you're in Raleigh, visit our PetCo! We have responsible people! :P
