Yet another reason I hate Ebay
I just need to vent about a deal that is going south on Ebay.

Besides finding out the hard way when I first opened an account that you don't leave feedback first, that you as a seller get slammed when USPS takes longer to deliver at Christmas time than the normal 3-5 days or dent the corner of a box, and that paypal echecks can and will bounce on you, I just added another reason why I do not like dealing on that site.

I upgraded my printer recently and had the old inkjet photo printer just sitting around gathering dust so I figured I would list it for sale.

It sold for 99 cents. Shipping was another $9.99 on top of it for a grand total of $10.98 for a perfectly fine printer.

Anyways, It was sold on Oct 30th. I couldn't remember where the installation CD went. I had it when I listed it for sale but of course when it comes time to ship it out, I can't find it. I emailed the buyer and explained that I misplaced the CD and would give him a full refund since without the CD to install the software, the photo features won't work.

I then refunded his full payment.

I get an email from him today and he was very irate stating he doesn't want the refund so I can turn around and sell it later. I explained to him I did not want to ship it since it wouldn't work properly when it arrived. He in turn tells me I am a terrible Ebay seller. Why would you demand to have it shipped after you get the refund when the CD is not going to arrive with it?
I have decided to let him keep the refund and ship it out for free minus the CD and sent him a email stating that.

This is the final straw. No more Ebay. It's just not worth it.

When it comes to Ebay and selling things there dont list something for $.99 if it is worth more. I had the same problem a few years back. if your willing to sell it for that little then bump up the shipping to $45.00

Dont let theis ya hoos get to you. They just like to make a fuss. I sold a few lithographs from Disney on ebay in mint cond. the buyer inturn emailed me when he do the print saying there was a hairline scratch on the back of the print. he then contacted ebay stating I riped him off and I ended up having to give him his money back. $2,000.00 gone, and the guy got a perfect print for free.

It happens, and thus is life. we win we loose. you just have to be smarter than the a holes that are buying from you. I had to learn that the hard way.

I didn't care how much it sold for. The 99 cents is fine. I listed it to get rid of it.

The thing that ticks me off is the attitude of this guy.

Maybe I should have shipped it without the CD and told him tough luck if he emailed me looking for it. That would be a bad Ebay seller. Not trying to be honest.

Why couldn't you just download the latest drivers and burn them to a cd??

It's not just the drivers. The CD has the software to install the memory card manager, the photo center, and the photo editing software.

I've only had 1 bad experience with E-bay. I bought what I though was a vintage Voltron 12 inch diecast figure. It was something I had when I was a child that I loved. Well I bought it for 100.00 and after shipping it was about 113.00 since it was heavy and I added insurance. Well 3 days later I get it. First mind you this is about a 5 pound diecast figure and some parts on it are plastic. Including its head. Well the guy wrapped it up in about 3 layers thick of what would be a paper bag from the grocery store. The head was cracked and I later found out after I inspected it that it was a copy. Even though the guy posted "Original Vintage Voltron." So after a few emails I asked for him to file a claim with USPS. Well he didnt add the insurance and told me to leave him alone. I filed a claim with Paypal and they didn't do a thing to help. They told me to talk to E-bay. But E-bay owns Paypal. And E-bay told me to talk to paypal. So now I have a 100.00 smashed Voltron copy. Thank god the guy gave me positive feedback before I got the toy. However, I never did get my money back.

Jesse, hiking up the shipping is a shady practice and I know lots of people that refuse to deal with sellers who do such a thing, it's rediculous to do.
That said I am currently having an issue with ebay. I recently moved and somehow lost all of my sets of probes. I found some at a local shop here but I like to have extras and found a nice set on Ebay so I purchased them and paid waaay back the beginning of Oct.
It's now the second week of November and guess what? Still no probes. I opened a claim with ebay since the seller refused to respond to my emails and was then sent a 'tracking number' by the seller. He claims to have shipped them UPS ground on the 24th (I paid for USPS Priority). After I email him back and make a note on paypal I get an email from him saying he'll send out a 'replacement' set. He called today with the tracking number and claims they'll be here Tuesday.
    We'll see.

And when did paypal start charging a fee to when you escelated something to a claim? Talk about a load of crap. I remember so much why I loathe it.

2 mornings ago I got up at 5 am to get ready for work and turn on the computer to cruise like I always do. Go to my ebay account and see that there is an item being sold! Thought, What is my hubby selling now! Turns out it was a Motorcycle!!!! Some one had gotten my password and listed! Had to go through all kinds of crap to get it off get refunded the money they charged to list the item, get a new password and have the account froze until ebay contacted me to make sure all was well before the account was active again:eek:

I occassionally buy things from eBay but I haven't sold anything in years. Most of the "stuff" I would sell is garage sale type stuff (old glasses, chipped dishes, blah blah) which wouldn't get much and isn't worth the time and hassle.

Asking .99 cents for a printer just to get rid of it, why not just drop it off at Goodwill? They'll even give you a tax deductible receipt for a higher value...

Anywho...I take eBay with a grain of salt. My worst experience was with what was supposed to be "an original studio still photo" of Humphrey Bogart. I got it and it was a color printer print. But, I returned the item and the seller sent me back my money (although he didn't agree with me that a computer print != photograph).

    HA!

Positive feedback and a complete change of attitude once the printer arrived.
I tried to tell him I wasn't out to screw him. I guess he now believes it.

Not to be finger pointing but if you do that on ebay its actually against the rules people can and will report you and consequences vary. first time probably nothing but repeatedly suspension or total ban.

Plus people know your doing it so might as well just start the listing at a higher price or use the reserve feature.

And getting anyone else to bid on it to raise the value is also a no no..

I can see why that guy would be ticked. I would probably assume the same thing. you were bitter about it selling for so cheap. Cause really you can get any program you want for anything if you know where to look. So he should be able to find what he needs and nowadays with windows XP it does it for you. just plug and go.

Not saying you were cause obviously you sent it but I can see where he WAS coming from.

That said Ebay has wicked deals but you can also get burned...

In the middle of getting burned myself. someone had a reptarium for sale 4' x 3' x 3.25'.... so i'm thinking this thing is huge.. I pay $60 it arrives quickly. but the thing is only 30" x 28" x 16" tiny compared to what i thought i was getting. To make matters worse the corner pieces weren't sent so I can't even put it together. The seller repeatedly says i'm stupid cause I don't know how to put it together and maybe next time I should ask MOM before I use Ebay. He hasn't even acknowledged the size difference issue which to me is the main one.

So we are in dispute with paypal and we'll see how it goes.

Ebay has its ups and downs. But when its bad you feel so helpless.

I've gotten some great deals though.

2 UTH zoomed under $30 shipped

    zoomed thermostat under $30

and a bunch of reptile supplies for a good price.

But now i'm changing over to a rack with flexwatt and a herpstat so all that stuff will probably just go back to ebay or maybe just go to my ever growing mountain of herp supplies
