    "probing" & "popping" ?
So, Slartibartfast's recent Female is really a male post made me wonder...
***I'm sure this has been covered before:P *** But, how does everyone perfer to sex their snakes? Is popping better that probing? I've seen both done plenty of times... But if I went to an experienced breeder, and asked to learn one of these skills... Witch would you all suggest??? Does age come into play???

I learned to pop from Tim Bailey. Age does come into play if you pop because as an adult, hemipenes can be harder to expose. The adults naturally have better control. But, I hear probing isn't always right because one may probe deeper than the other but both may be the same sex.

Pop them coming out of the incubator, reconfirm at a later date by probing or poping.

You will run into tweeners every now and then, that will have you pulling your hair out! :rolleye2:

That's what I was told when I had my pastel male probed...bob from the herp hobby shop probed it. he's pretty good at probing I'm told but he just wasn't sure. Tweener is the word I was trying to think of 1,000 posts ago but thanks for your post ed cuz I'd still be thinking of the term...lol

I've never seen a "big breeder" use a probe on a ball python unless they were teaching someone how to probe.

If you've got "the touch" any ball python can be popped.

is "popping" like probing, better learned through first hand experience with a breeder? or can instructions be given?

Seeing it first hand and doing it in front of an experienced person is best. That way if you start moving the snake the wrong way they will let you know.

In my opinion its best to know how to probe and pop as sometimes you need to do both just to make sure on the sex.
