What are your exact temps? Should be 90 to 95 area.Do you see slime or gunk running out of his mouth or inside his mouth? If not then i doubt its URI(a cold).I have never heard one just cough though. If you do see slime in his moth make a vet app ASAP.
Re: cough while shedding was in process
i didn't know that snakes can cough.
hope yours is okay.
Re: cough while shedding was in process
his temps are 92 during the day and around 85 at night, i wasnt here when he was coughing-or making the noise, thats just what they said happened. they went over to the tank and roger opened his mouth really wide a made a coughing noise(he did that one more time to make a total of 3 times). i took him out and inspected him in detail and noticed nothing out of the oridinary except how nice he looked from the shed. i will be keeping a really close eye on him the next couple of days.
Re: cough while shedding was in process
if you hold him to your ear... can you hear anything? weird breathing type stuff?
Re: cough while shedding was in process
i held him to my ear for a minute or so and i heard nothing, --except for the sweet nothings he was wispering to me-i think he likes me.
Re: cough while shedding was in process
haha. is it possible that your roomates could be wrong? maybe he was just yawning. I'm not sure. I have never heard of a snake coughing, just like horses can't throw up, i didnt know snakes could do that...
Re: cough while shedding was in process
i know i have never heard of snake coughing before. i do believe them that he made some sort of noise, because as soon as i got home they were excited to tell me all about it-me i wasn't so excited to hear he was making noises while shedding, they said it was loud enough to hear from the other side of the room.
i dont know what happened maby it was just one of those weird things that no one has ever heard of happening before, i will be keeping a close eye on him for the next few days
Re: cough while shedding was in process
I've never heard of a snake coughing. Good Luck!
Re: cough while shedding was in process
I've never heard of a snake coughing either. I would keep an eye (ear?) on him just the same.

Ball pythons will make a cough like sound when trying to expell mucus from their lungs ... it is a sign of a possible respiratory infection.

Re: cough while shedding was in process
My female albino BP had a respitory infection a while back and did make coughing sounds alot. When I inspected her I could see clear congestion in her mouth. The Vet sent me home with antibiotics that I had to inject her with. Not fun for me or her. Make sure you check her mouth for signs of any congestion. If it is an infection the Vet should do a culture to find out what bacteria it is and what antibiotic kills it. Some anibiotics can be given orally and some need to be injected. My snake is doing great now, hope yours is fine!
Re: cough while shedding was in process
Many times they will defecate and/or urinate during a shed...and sometimes there are "sounds" that go along with that.
Possibility?
