    introducing... ashley! DUW
well today we went out to find a little male rattie as my friends male passed away and so we no longer have a male for breeding.

well, we didn't find any males but we couldn't resist this little girl! her fur is sooooo soft. what a beauty. her name is ashley ;)

she is completely NOT hand tamed at all. no one has handled this little angel... she's so frightened. so we have quarantined in the living room in this little bin... and we'll handle her lots and get her people friendly. i love her colouring... so pale - i'm in love! https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil.../4/7/heart.gif

well we don't have any that colour. we have a pale beige rex - rosie (who's the mama at this time) - we have becky (pet) who's blackybrownymixy - we have two of rosie's babies from her last litter - daisy and lily - one is black rex and the other is a hooded black and white (don't know which is which my daughter names them LOL) and so now we have this little girl.

we do have a male on hold at one of the petstores i supply silkworms and butterworms to - a hooded black and white male - so he'll go into quarantine and when he's done, we'll be breeding him to the daughter's of rosie as they'll be old enough for such things

that brings us up to 3 breeding females (as we won't be breeding rosie again) - so we'll keep another of her current pups to make that 4 - so we need to pick up another 2 females - which will happen when we trade in these pups for other unrelated ones at the petstore once they are weaned.

*whew* so jo... thanks for all your assistance. we'll have the 6 females going before we get our new snakes from adam... which is good cause i'm sure they are going to want to be fed LOL

Welcome hon, she's a very nice looking female. Can't quite place her coloring from the pics (or my morning coffee has not kicked in from a very late night LOL) but she seems to have lovely ruby eyes. Try a dab of olive oil on some stale bread. It seems to be a very popular treat for my rats anyways (and very good for their coats). Once she figures out human=yummy treats she'll be your best buddy LOL (the way to a rats heart definitely being through their bellies...they are such gluttons!)

I really wish I could have pet rats but the allergies stop me....Breeders with little handling is all I have here. Nice little girl. Will she be a breeder?

yes she will be a breeder :) once she's out of quarantine and grows up a bit more - i'll get her fattened up on some olive oil and bread!

jo, the best pic which shows her colouring is one and three. two makes her look darker and she's actually the lighter colour with flecks of darker grey. (the dark grey is still a light grey but darker than the rest of her grey)

we are off to pick up our new male breeder today. can't wait!

I'm still learning so much about color and pattern names when it comes to rats. Can't wait to see what you decide on for your new breeder male.

well there's only one male available around here right now... so i'm going to pick him up today. he's a hooded rat - black hood white body with the stripe down his body.

my daughter just spent about 30 minutes talking to ashley, offered her some silkworms and butterworms which she thought was silly... wasn't interested at all. in the end my daughter was able to hold her for a short time (over the bin) and she'll spend more time with her later. she really has a gift when it comes to critters.

off to the store now... will post some pics later ;)

What I've found is putting them in your shirt and just carrying them around with you, really works to get them settled in and liking you. I prefer to leave scared newbies alone for 1-2 months depending on how fast they warm up. Sometimes putting them in the bathroom gets them used to sounds and stuff quicker and they won't be as scared.

Oh, and her color "looks" like mink-based platinum, but I could be wrong. I'll probably show my friend(who breed's rats for pets) to see if she knows what color Ashley is. She may be a blue-beige too, but who knows.
