How much do BPs drink?
I have a 6in shallow water bowl (one of the exo terra jobs). I have never seen my BP drink from it. I have never seen him slither through it. In fact he usually avoids it.
I am assuming that it is only there to provide humidity. In fact now I have a air stone in it to increase the humidity in the tank for his shed time.
How much do BPs drink?

Re: How much do BPs drink?
They may not drink a lot, but they definitely do drink. I generally notice mine drinking around feeding time, sometimes right after eating. The water bowl does help to raise the humidity, but clean, fresh water MUST be provided for drinking!

My large ones usually drink anywhere between 2 and 8 oz. a week.

Mine drinks a lot. I catch him drinking every few days or so. So you're may be drinking a little bit when you aren't watching (some are weird like that). Keep it in there, as they do need water.

Re: How much do BPs drink?
I've seen my Julio drink. He usually does it about 3-4 days before he gets ready to shed. He'll drink the entire bowl in about 2 days (I'm not sure how many ounces that is, but I top it off several times in that period). It's really cute to watch, too.

How are you measuring that? Are you accounting for evaporation?

Yep, I did account for evap. I fill my 16oz. cups almost to the rim, and I estimate how much is gone in a week. I did notice that some of my snakes of around the same size seem to drink more than others. I think they pee more, too.

I've seen mine drink several times, not often though and he stops if he notices me watching. OMG it's cute though.

What, like you've never had to titrate... or calculate a molarity or... stuff? (okay, mostly "stuff") :D

i've never seen mines drink, it does up the humidity though

Re: How much do BPs drink?
I see mine drink from time to time; usually when I have taken them out for some reason and replace them into the cage. I do not fill my water dishes all the way. (they're heavy, large dog bowls and Pyrex casserole dishes.) About 2 centimeters of water is fine, and I change it every other day. I have just had way too many spills and overflows (granted, my snakes had mites the last few months, and this caused them to soak often, but the PAM cleared that up fast.) In drinking, they pause, take about 15 seconds, and stop.

when i first got my hog island boa i read that it's not good to keep their enclosure near vibrations which can stress them. so i moved him from beside our salt water tank (as the large pump is on the floor and does cause constant vibrations).
i wonder if the air stone would create a vibration which may stress out your ball - or drive it crazy (not literally but figuratively).
personally, i would remove the air stone.

Re: How much do BPs drink?
I cant remember for sure if i have saw a BP drink but i KNOW my corns do. I'm not to sure about the air stone idea either. If you're worried about humidity, either close of part of the holes in the tub/cover part of the screen lid or use a humid hide. If you want plans for a humid hide let me know, i have a post i can link you to that i made the other day.

I'd like to see the humid hide plans.

I have a description in that post. I'll probably make one and make some pics in the process in a day or two.

Re: How much do BPs drink?
i don't use humid hides... i just give the tub a spray from a squirt bottle if i notice anyone is blue. most times though... i don't even bother with increasing the humidity - i have huge fish tanks all over my house and i live in a tropical climate... so the humidity is high here normally. at first i had problems with sheds but now everyone sheds completely and in one piece.

Ours seems to enjoy a sip of water after eating. Snarfing down a rat must be thirsty work!

Re: How much do BPs drink?
So on tuesday, Fluffy shed. I turned off the air stone, and the humidity went down to 59. I left him alone tuesday night.
Last night I took him out to clean the cage, HE WAS SO SOFT and SMOOTH. I had never held him after a shed. It was totally awesome!
BTW, the aspen under his hide was realatively dry, but the inside of his hide had a lot of condensation. The humidity in his hide must have been 90%. Glad I cleaned everything up.
