How long ago did you get it? Isn't there some law that says if you go to the vet within a certain amount of time and find something wrong, the person you bought it from is responsible? At least that is how it is here in Louisiana with dogs.

Kashmire had worms when I got him and he was treated with two doses of Panacur, two weeks apart. The vet gave them to him. I'm lucky, I was only charged $2 per dose.

I purchased Kashmire as a CH from an online source in CA.

Intestinal worms can be very serious, if left unchecked, but with treatment is extrememly easy cure. I would also recommend you thoroughly sterilze your enclosure, so your snake doesn't get recontaminated from the fecal material. ;)

are worms obvious via visual inspections by a lay person? require a microscope?

Nope, you need a microscope to look for eggs which are obtained from a 'float'. ;) You can sometimes see roundworms or tapeworms, but you can more accurately check via the fecal float. (anyone hungry?)

The most common way is to mix the stool with a supersaturated solution, in which the fecal matter is more dense and sinks while the worm eggs rise to the surface. Some labs also centrifuge the samples to increase the separation.

Then you take the surface layer of liquid and scan it under a microscope for eggs. It's not hard to learn to do, but does require a bit of practice especially with identifying some of the more uncommon species.

I cleaned with a mix of water and chlorox and made sure that I rinsed very well and waited for the smell of the chlorox to dissapate before putting Kashmire backin.

I found out one of my CH babies had internal parisites when I took it to the vet to be treated for what seemed like an RI. The vet administered Flagyl orally and gave an antibiotic injection. The snake unfortunately did not make it through the next day... I have been considering not buying any more snakes from the shop I got it from, as this was not the first snake I had problems with from there.

Bleach can be a very effective disinfectant. You must have the snake in another enclosure. The first cage is then rinsed thoroughly and then once more and then aired out.

You need to wait to feed him until the parasites are gone, his final treatment is given and he's had a week or so to build back his intestinal flora(beneficial bacteria that help him digest).

If you don't wait, the snake may end up regurgitating, which just puts you back where you started.

It won't hurt him to wait. Keep fresh water available at all times, and wash your hands before and after any necessary handling(necessary meaning only handle if you need to clean his enclosure, and you need to put him in a pillowcase to restrain him while you clean).

Also, feeding in the enclosure is your best bet. They are more secure in their own home and will feed much better. I feed all of my snakes in their enclosures and they don't hesitate one bit. They also don't ever mistake me for food(as I am not mouse-sized nor do I smell gross :) ).

Just a few suggestions, good luck with him.
