whats this noise?
since yesterday my new blood has been making this strange sound.it sounds like a mouse squeak or when you let a air out of a balloon through the small opening(sounds like a fart noise).im guessing she's hissing at me since she hasn't gotten used to being handled me yet.my ball python used to do the same when i first got him but overtime he stopped doing it since im guessing he got used to being handled by me.at first i thought my blood had some kinf of respitory problem but i dont see any foam around the mouth or thorat.so im guessing she's hissing at me?

Re: whats this noise?
A hiss is one sound, while the sound of an RI is another.
What are your temps/humidity? When was the last time it shed?

Re: whats this noise?
PS. This probably belongs in the Blood Python forum....

Re: whats this noise?
(I moved it.)
From your description, it sounds more like a wheeze or other indicator of a possible RI. Even when my wee little gophersnake was a baby, when he hissed, there was NO mistaking what he was doing. And since bloods are known to be "great talkers" I would imagine if he hissed at you, you'd know it.
My recommendation would be to make a vet appt as soon as possible.

Re: whats this noise?
well the noise only occurs when i pick her up or hold her.otherwise she stays quiet.like i said my ball python used to do the same thing but only for the 1st few days that i held him.but i'll take my blood to a vet to see if there's anything wrong with her. it does sound like weezing a bit.

Re: whats this noise?
and its also very faint, i have to be next to her in order to hear it.it sounds like a mouse squeak.

That's definitely not a hiss. And you say she only does it when you're holding her...but I'd be willing to bet she may be doing it a lot more than that...it's just that you can't hear it unless you're holding her close.

Re: whats this noise?
check her nostrils this problem could simply be some stuck shed by the nose that is making the noise when she/he breathes. I would still take your snake to a vet just to be sure though.

Re: whats this noise?
My bloods do that when I grab them and take them out of their cages, but once I get them out them calm down and stop huffin and puffin. But if its more of a squeek, check their temperature if its too low raise it and lower the humidity if its too high. Your humidity should be around 60% and you should only raise it when you start seeing the shed cycle, give her an hour soak in warm water and check her skin for that stuck shed. It might be a start of an RI,too. Good luck!

Re: whats this noise?
well i tried feeding her a live mouse yesterday and she didnt eat it.so im guessing she's either not hungry, picky about her food, or there' something wrong with.as for the mouse...i'll keep her alive until my BP sheds probably by today or tomorrow im guessing and i know he'll be hungry.

Re: whats this noise?
If you have an older blood that is not eating and "squeaking", I'd get her to a reptile vet to get checked out.

Re: whats this noise?
she's still a baby,only 1.5 ft.

Re: whats this noise?
oh i held her yesterday and she still did the "huffin and puffin" but then i noticed eventually that she stopped doing it.i'll still keep an "ear" out for her to see if she continues.
