are pinkies ok????

can beardies eat pinkies?? i was told about someones beardie eating pinky mice i was wondering if this is ok or not?my beardie is somewhere around 7 years old maybe older and he is rather large.i was wanting to try feeding him one but i'm not sure. :rockon:

Pinkies are NOT a good source of food all the time, they are just too fatty for dragons.

But pinkies make a nice treat every now and again...... there are less benefits to feeding pinkies to dragons on a regular basis, so I myself only do it every once in awhile. Maybe once every few months...

ahhh cool, :) i have only had my beardie for a few months or so....he loves his worms and crickets, i want to introduce some more variety outside his daily greens and berries.

pinks are good for gravid females too... but not in large qty.

I have a question about this topic. Is it ummm....gross...when they eat a pinky? Does it leave blood on the substrate or anything? I'd rather have my rodents eaten whole...lol. And would you feed a beardie a LIVE pink? Or only f/t?

i have not noticed that. it is more the crunching sound i dislike.

i'm pretty sure i gave mine live when she was gravid. and i didn't listen for any crunching sounds... but there was no mess left at all.

i tried and he loved it:D i fed him f/t and he ate out of my hand. it just made some cruching sounds when he ate it, and there was no blood.they just chew and swallow.it would be interesting if he ate it peice by peice:)

I have had several experiences with this..

some that all you hear is crunching..... and it really dont leave any mess..

some they kinda chew, and it can be kinda gross cause yeah..ummm, shall I say... "rolly polly pinky heads".... you get the picture I am sure..

and the other experience, they chew a few times and swallow...

~little shudders~ So...if I decide to give my beardie a pinky treat....I'll just leave the room. I'd rather have a little puddle of blood in the sand rather than hear those crunchy sounds! LOL

Definitely messy...I've seen beardeds chomp a pinkie in half, eat one half, then go back and grab the other...not sure how I feel about that, and since pinkies aren't really necessary to their diet, I just don't see the need...

They swallow them whole with a little chew like they would a cricket or roach.

yea i feed one to my beardie once every other month and he lovess them.......you just have to be careful not to feed them to them too often becasue of risking them getting fatty liver disease....

yes yes yes. they are awesome. i feed my adult females one a week when they are gravid. and all the others get one every other week.

i would go as far as to say for large beardies i would go with hoppers as all pinkies are is little butter balls of fat. but hoppers have a lot more vitamins and protine.

they usually wont eat f/t they like to chase them down. as they are stinulated by movement. mine usually just swallow them hole.

Mine just love pinkies, and they don't care if are f/t; as soon as they see me holding pinkies they came and grab them from my hands.
I give 1 pinkie a month each beardie, and sometimes I give them some raw turkey brest that they also like to integrate/vary the crickets and veggies diet
