Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
I will explain my reasons for asking this.I am having problems in my neck that has been causing my arms and hands to become numb after a short time in one position.I have had a MRI done a couple weeks back and something in my neck is causing this to happen. So tonight about 7pm i was watching tv and my right arm went numb.So i started to move my arm so it would stop being numb,my doctor told me to do this.Well as soon as i lifted my arm i had a extreme shock from my elbow to my shoulder. So after about 2+hrs of being in pain i went to the ER.So it being a Saturday night i chose a less busy hospital ER to go to.I hate waiting lol.So this doctor walks in and after rudely moving my arm like a bungy cord he asks me who is my family doctor.I tell him the guys name,he asks me why did i come there and not go to where my doctor is.Now under my understanding how doctors work here they ALL go to ALL three hospitals. The doctor then tells me since he is unable to access my records he can not do anything for me.He then says he will give me a shot to help the pain until i can go to my doctors ER.So still in pain i got up and walked to the desk and told him i was leaving and to keep his shot! Now from my understanding of the Illinois laws he just disciminated myself because my doctor is not in his hospital. So i did go to MY doctors ER and was pleasently taken care of and given some meds for my pain.I have to contact my doctor Monday to get another MRI or something done. While i was at my doctors ER i told them what the other guy told me.They were shocked and agreed that he was wrong and i should do something. So once i get up Monday i have 2 calls to make.First one to my doctor for some tests and then i will be calling my attorney! Now has this type of treatment ever happen to anyone here? I thank everyone for allowing me to vent here and i am sorry for posting my health problems. The members here are like my second family since all i have is my wife and daughter.

Re: Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
oh man that sucks.
when my daughter was in the car accident a few weeks ago the doctor was very rude. he told me that she wouldn't have a head injury from a car accident and that i'm not a doctor and that i don't know anything (her third head injury in two weeks).
the car swerved to miss a horse, slid on the wet pavement, spun and then turned over into a ditch and was underwater. the top of the car was totally crushed in.
and he said she couldn't have a head injury?
we took her to our family doctor and he said she had a major concussion.
her boyfriend... he wouldn't give him any antibiotics and part of the roof of the car went through his head and left a hole in his forehead... he ended up having to go into emerg for 5 days for IV antibiotics as the infection was so bad by time he got to see his doctor 3 days later (it was a long weekend up here - thanksgiving)
so... does this surprise me joe... no not at all.
i'm so sorry it happened to you though https://ball-pythons.net/gallery/fil.../7/comfort.gif

Wow i think i would have slapped that doctor and then tell him it cant hurt! As far as her boyfreinds injuries are concerned that ER doctor should have his license yanked. Thanks for the petting  .

Re: Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
Belly dancing is a lot of fun.
Joe, that's not so unbelievable sadly. My brother in law had to go to the ER awhile back because he had trouble breathing. The Dr told him he was causing it himself and sent him home. He went to his regular Dr. the next day and was diagnosed with strep, bronchitis and pneumonia. I'm sure there will be plenty of horror stories about ERs.
Sorry that it happened to you though.

Re: Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
Man, that is just wrong Joe. I would def. get your attorney involved and see how you can go about getting this resolved.
My doctor refuses to see people who are uninsured. I have gone to him for years, and recently called and asked if my boyfriend could make an appointment.. he is uninsured but would have gone in with cash in hand.. and the secretery refused to book him an appointment!!

Yea i have actually stopped breathing a couple times.A couple times during surgeries(thank God for code blue) and until i was dianosed with sleep Apnea i constantly stopped breathing while i slept. For the members here whom are football fans,if you remember Reggie White from the Green Bay Packers he died from sleep apnea.I contacted my doctor as soon as i heard this news.I now have a machine that makes me start breathing when i stop during the night.

Re: Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
Yeah.
I've had it happen with some specialists as well. I had a cardiologist insist I was depressed and that I was doing this to myself. What was happening is I was experiencing tachycardia, my blood pressue was really low, and feeling light headed (room spinning). My regular doctor ended up sending me to a couple different people (including a psychologist to prove I wasn't depressed), and we finally got some of the issues resolved. I don't see that cardiologist and I wouldn't want to.
I've gotten about 3 prescriptions I didn't need from an ER visit becuase the ER doc didn't talk to my regular doctor as well.
Joe I would definately get an attorny or something and take it up with the hospital. That is ridiculous. Just becuase you went to a different ER doesn't mean you shouldn't be treated. For example, if you had a car accident near that ER, you're going to go to that ER, not the one on the other side of town.

Re: Have you ever been discriminated by a ER doctor?
Why don't you give the hospital a call and ask them about their complaint procedures, tell them why you are unhappy, what you would have liked to have happened and see what their response is. Reaching for the lawyer is just going to make them antagonistic and is very unlikely to get you anywhere. Ultimately you will probably just contribute to pushing up everyone's health insurance.
I'd explore your other options before going for the nuclear option.

Boy isnt that just lovely:mad: .Telling you that you are the one causing your blood presure to go low:eek: .I will admit i am not a doctor,i do not see how its possible to MAKE your blood presure go low:confused: .I have made my blood presure go high though,i have a short fuse at times:D .I was in soo much pain last night i just kept my comments to myself and left that ER:P .Now i wonder what that ER doctor would have done if you were allergic to one of those meds he gave you.Until earlier today while i was thinking about how i was treated last night,i realized he actually broke 2 laws last night. He not only discriminated me for having another doctor ,he also discriminated a disabled person. That is totaly illegal all by itself.

Kurgan, please do not take this as if i am being rude towards yourself as i am not.I can tell you exactly what will happen if i was to contact the hospital. They would lie to me and say they will look into it and get back to me.Of course they never do anything other then cover there butts and destroy all evidence of me even being their. How do i know this is what will really happen? Its simple,it happened to me almost 5yrs back. When i was in the Intensive Care Unit after my first surgery to remove the cancer.I had nemonya (spelling) also so they would give me breathing treatments several times a day.Long story short,i started getting sick just as the guy placed the mask over my face.So i reached up to remove it and the guy grabs my hand and smashes the mask in my face.I now have a chunk missing from my nose because of it.I told the hospital about it and guess what,NOTHING happened:mad: .The lady told me that they were going to fire him as soon as he come in that night. Now you might wonder how i know nothing happened,he attempted to come in that night to give me a treatment:mad: .Its kinda hard to be at work when he was going to be fired that night. To this day he is still their. So by the time my lawyer looked into it no one knew what we were talking about. They had destroyed everything showing he was even at work that night. Now i am not the type to run to a lawyer just for anything and i could care less if i gain a monetary settlement over this.I DO care about how i was treated and will do my best to get him removed and have his license pulled before he causes someone to lose there life! In todays local paper they had a piece warning people about the things happening in our ER all over the USA.Doctors not properly treating people and allowing them to leave and them dieing shortly after leaving the hospital. Now if you were in my shoes and what happened to me happened to you what would you do? Say i keep quite and let them sweep it under the rug. Then i find out that this SAME doctor allowed someone to die because there doctor worked at another hospital,i would NEVER forgive myself. How would you feel?
