Male ball pythons will copulate if kept together ... it's a form of dominance ... I've seen it many times.

Are they mating or fighting? And if fighting: why the heck would you put two males together? And if mating: congratulations.

I saw the picture, but have been so confused about this whole thread I wasn't sure if I should jump in or not.
If you had two "known males" why were they allowed to be together long enough to "copulate" in the first place? And if, indeed, it turns out one of them was NOT male, but is actually a female who may now be gravid...why would that bother you so much? Sounds like a happy turn of events to me.
And yes...it has happened before, to other members here...to have a snake they thought was male turn out to be a female who's become gravid.
(Just yet another reason not to house snakes together, even if you think they are the same sex...any pregnancy brings risk to the animal, and unexpected ones even more so.)

I was waiting for the punch line also but I don't see one coming...Judy you took the words right out of my mouth.

Re: Anyone ever see 2 males like this?
The only other reason I could think of to put two males together is to stimulate a breeding responce by putting the males in a competition type situation. If that wasn't the reason, I don't know why someone would house two males together.
From those of you who have observed males asserting dominance in this fashion, have anyone noticed damage to the males hemipene? I figure there might be some sort of struggle when this takes place and damage to reproductive organs can occur. Also, will female ball pythons show this kinda behavior if placed together?
From my readings on reptiles, asserting dominance in this fashion is fairly common with some reptiles. Some people have kept pairs of monitors together for years.....witnessed them 'breed' and never got eggs...then they were stunned to find out they had two males (or two females) that were simply showing dominance over each other.

Re: Anyone ever see 2 males like this?
Story in a nutshell.
These pics are from last season. I only had pics of copulation and when she was about to drop. I never took a pic of her on the eggs since the eggs were duds.
I sold the striped FEMALE. The person who bought it said it was a male. I said no way it is a proven female. Now after seeing the pics and resexing it, he says he is sorry since it probed 5 scales so he thought it was male.
Now I just need to get the payment.

No, but the stress caused on the subordinate male by an incident like that has been known to be fatal.
