Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
I was the one who told him about the duct tape. You get a non-toxic, adhesive duct take and a piece of plastic and keep peeling it off the plastic until it isn't quite as sticky as it was. thumbtack it onto the floor along the wall's, and check it every few hour's. Once the snake is caught, you bring the snake and the tape to the sink, and run it under slow-running warm water and use a very mild soap. You make sure the snake does not get tangled in the tape as well when bringing it to the sink. I have used it before, and have never had problems. I had gotten this tip from a breeder here a few years back, and it's helped me catch somewhere around 4 snakes that have escaped over time. The snake's are still alive and well, with no problem's (AfRock's, Burm's, etc.). You cannot just peel the tape off as it will probably tear the snake's skin, or tear some scale's off.

In my opinion, not a good idea. Regardless of whether it may work, adhesives and snakes dont mix.

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
I use it as a last resort ;) It depend's on the size of the snake, etc. If the snake is large enough to pull itself free, then no. If you do not feel safe using it then no...not a good idea. If the snake can pull itself free, then it can do some damage, but with the size of his corn, and the fact that ratsnake's really aren't as strong as pythons...I don't see anything that could go wrong, other than if he accidentally got the snake tangled in the tape, or if he tried to peel it off of the tape.

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
No, not duct tape, thats just cruel. Some type of system where they slither up a ramp and fall into a bowl or something to get to a pinky maybe, but dont use tape. There is WAY to big a chance of the snake being hurt.

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
Its not cruel. The only problem I have with that is the fact of gettting tagled and bieng a Witch to get out. I have a non sticky trap right know...We will see. Im really hoping he gets to it. its a pinkie . and he is hungry. I hoep he finds it.

Using tape is a bad idea. Take the advice or not.

Painters tape?
well its not really painter tape. It is a special tape that is so unsticky that it wont ruin anything . it is made for house inspectors and home builders. Im using a few pieces of it it is harmless.

I also used a slightly different method to this trick in the past. I put low tact painters tape on the baseboards once. It caught the little corn snake wonderful. The tape barely has any stick at all. Its is the blue kind. Anyway...I am not suggesting anyone else use that trick...or there aren't better options...or that it would work for anyone else....but it worked for me the one and only time I had an escape artist. No damage to the snake's scales or eyes.
Good Luck!

O my God you can not be serious:colbert: .We are talking about a small corn snake.Tape will tear of the scales and flesh no matter how much you try to make it unsticky.

Do me a favor.Stick a piece of tape in your hair and wait a few minutes then pull it off real quick. Now do you still think its not cruel:(

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
Snakes + tape = BAD BAD BAD!!!
The tape will win and your snake will loose a bunch of scales.

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
You said your guy was little,if he is little little, watch the tape..:2cent:

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
Tape can seriously injure a small snake. Had one of mine get caught up in some by accident. It was not easy to free him without injury!!:(

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
No telling where he has wandered. :(
Try placing small shoe box hides and creating warm spots. If you have a room where the sun shines in look for him there. :)

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
i had some tape on the edge of a container holding down the paper towel to fill in the gap so my corn couldn't escape... and my little corn snake got under it... oh it was awful, i cried :( it ripped the scales off the top of it's head and damaged it's tail.
please don't use tape around snakes!

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
Once again, you do not just peel the tape off. Only someone with half a brain would do that. You gently run warm water over the snake and scrub gently with a very mild dish soap to remove the tape. Peeling it off will hurt the snake...and will show you have no experience in using this method, plain and simple...

Re: I need some snake traps...ASAP.
I really would advise not using duct tape. Another member on her a while back had a corn snake caught in some duct tape and the snake broke it's back trying to get free.

Agreed! Any type of tape is a poor choice for catching a lost snake.
