my turtle did something... ODD!
He has been moving around his gravel tearing up the plants and doing some odd posturing (sp?) (standing at the bottem of the tank funny) nothing new for his normal day.
well he started it up again then all when very quite... to quite. I look and he is standing funny again with a look on his face of being half asleep and his tail fully tucked unter his plastern. (sp?) I look closer and I see that my little girl is actualy a boy and to top that off he was .... playing with him self :O
is this normal for a musk turtle? or any turtle for that matter? I had red eards when I was a kid and they never did this.

Hmm, a turtle playing with himself.. thats a first I have ever heard of this...
I really doubt he/she was "playing" with itself... animals dont have sex for gratification..they have sex to procreate. Now, if your turtle was a human, "playing with itself" may actually be what was going on... humans are the only creatures known that have sex for the gratification that can follow..not animals.

Jeanne I heard somewhere that dolphins can feel pleasure that humans do during these moments. Is this true?

If memory serves me correct.... they are still doing research on this....
Although, it is my understanding, as of this moment, some monkey species do feel like humans do.. was just told that a min. ago. Apparently, some monkeys have been found "playing with themselves". Apes in particular.

Male horses play with themselves; I remember covering this in class. We had a male goat who also did things which I will not describe here, but there was no question what he was doing.
I've had a number of clients at work describe intact male dogs who were particularly attached to certain pilllows or stuffed animals, requiring frequent laundering of said items. If that's not sex for pleasure, I don't know what is....
And in more formal literature bonobos are well-documented, as are baboons, mandrills, and quite a few other primates.
Not saying reptiles do...so far it seems to be just in the very social species, but it's certainly not limited to humans.

Re: my turtle did something... ODD!
Well I didnt know really how to put it into words. I'm not the best with words, gramor, spelling or just plane english. I think next time something like this happens I will keep my questions to myself and foreget about it.
and as for horses and other animals, yes it is true. Some horse breeders prefer to use a teaser mare to get there studs to start "messing around" and get them ready for the up coming breeding season.
Again sorry to offend any one. It was ment to be that way. this will never come up again.

My Chihuahua "Cotton" will hump any soft toy, pillows, stuffed animals etc. I hate it!!! He has been fixed since he was 4 months old, when I finally couldnt take it anymore. But he still does it, habit? I think not..being that he started it when he was about 3 months old, and we had him fixed over a year and a half ago.

Yes turtles do it to. I've seen it happen a number of times, at least with tortoises. They use Rocks and logs and whatever else is handy. One time a friend of mine had a turtle come up and 'do' his foot. When he moved the turtle away, he already had goo all over his shoe.
