Contacts... anyone? >:/
So, I've worn glasses forever.... and they've become a part of who I am...but yesterday at the eye-doc. I requested to try contacts. This is what I'm having a problem with.... My vision/focus is blurring, getting fuzzy if I don't blink, ALOT! They said it will take aprox. a week to get completelly used to.... But has anyone had this blurring on their first full day with contacts? If so, did it get better? And are you happy with your contacts? Or are they a pain in the booty?
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!! L:oops:

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
Thanks for the feedback Nate! I keep pushing up my glasses that are no longer there! I made a real fool of myself at work!!! A lady in the office asked, " Are you OK? You keep pushing between your eyes"?!?!? lol

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I've been wearing contacts so for long, I can't imagine not using them. I use the AcuView Oasis that you can sleep in, because I'm blind as a bat without them, and glasses make me motion sick!

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I just got Oasis contacts....they're the absolute BEST!! sooo COMFY!

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I use clear contacts!! That are really really thin and you cant see them!!:carrot: ;)

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I'm all about the disposables. I love throwing them away every day.

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
What sorta prescription do you have..(far/near sighted, astigmatism, bi focal??) I have worked in the optical industry for 10 years now and i have fitted may patients, your problems may be related to your type of correction. Contacts do take a little while to get use to. Also are you wearing disposable or gas permiable contacts?

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I used to wear the disposables. Wore them for a week then threw them out and replaced with a new pair. If I can make a suggestion, save the money for lasik. It was $3000 for both eyes when I got it done 3 years ago. Definitely the best $3k I have ever spent. No more glasses, no more contacts, no more contact solution.

Ummm.. I'm near sighted with stigmatisms in both... But not bad enough to wear "corrective" contacts... I'm getting used to them being in my eyes... but I think it's strange that my vision blurs/foggs up if I look at something for awhile w/out blinking... That might be part of it!?!? Are they dry?
These are 2wk-ers... On trial till next week. I'll either get over it, and get them for real... or go back to my frames babE!
Thanks!

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I've looked into Lasik before. there's a lasik center down here in central florida and i hear ads for it all the time...and i've heard nothing but good things. of couse, my family and everyone around me seem to think i'll be the one they mess up on and I go blind because of it....

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
Unfortunately, I don't think insurance covers it. I had to come up with the cash, but who knows, maybe sometime in the future it will.
Good Luck. BTW, just give it some time and you will get used to the contacts. IMO, they're a lot more convenient than glasses.

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I have found out from playing video games that when you consentrate on one particular thing and don't blink, your contacts will start to try up and fog up too.
When i play video games i have to wear my glasses because i consentrate so hard on what I'm doing i don't blink as often.

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
If you have an astigmatism it does take longer, and they will blur cause they are weighted to sit @ a particular place on your cornea. Give them time and talk to your Dr if you have any problems cause sometimes those are harder to fit right. :D Hang in there and be patient. Good Luck

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I have problems with mine to...but I HATE glasses on me....my right eye which also has a astigmatizem *sp in it, is the one that gives me the most problems. I usually wear my glasses around the house and contacts when we go some where, BUT the dang dogs got ahold og my glasses and chewed the crap out of them so I've been wearing my contacts all day......I hate it! I have to use eyes drops a million times a day!! My right eye is a two weeker and my left eye is a once a month one...talk about frustrating. I to want laser correction...maybe some day. When you add up the sot for contacts, solution etc. Laser surgery makes more sense in the long haul to me.

I wish I could get contacts. but my vision is changing alot since im only 14. Right now my vision is around 500/20 wich is very horrible. I am probably legally blind without them!

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
Wow! Thanks everyone... I'm glad I'm not the only one w/ less than perfect sight!!! I think Nate pinned it... I don't blink enough and they start to blur...
"Hi, my name is Laura.. I have a blinking problem.." :P Agh....!
Cue, I thought about it... But I'm not sure how that would go over w/ the work place! LOL! I WOULD REALLY like some of those "wolf" ones... for rec. purposes! THAT would be Truelly wicked! :devilish:

LOL - mine don't fog up. I do remember that when I first started wearing the contacts that you can sleep in, that I had to keep a bottle of eye drops by the bed, because they'd feel really dry in the morning - but I guess my eyes got used to them. I'm using the Oasis now as 1 week at a time, then change them, wearing them 24 hours a day.
It only gets blurry if I forget to change them (although I have been known to wear a pair for up to three months without changing them, and the eye doctor says my eyes look like I've never worn contacts). I just forget to change them unless they get blurry, and then I change them.
Lasik is not covered by my insurance and currently not something that I can afford, but I'd love to do it one day!

I was in the 6th grade when I got my contacts, and I have had them ever since, that is like 10 years I guess. You could look into them still.
-
Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
That's great that you can sleep in yours! And wear them for so long... I'm gonna ask about that option next week at my next apt... That would be too great! But alas, for now I'm blind first thing in the AM & last thing in the PM!
I must say that I'm getting more and more used to them now...:D

Don't ask if you can wear one pair for months on end - they would not EVER recommend it. Just because I do, doesn't mean that you should.
However - do know that daily wear, weekly wear and monthly wear are all the exact same contact, just boxed differently and priced differently. I think daily are less expensive, so you could buy the daily and wear them for a month, based on the monthly directions (which might be to take out each night).

Re: Contacts... anyone? >:/
I can no longer wear contacts. (I have allergies == dry eyes...which means I can wear contacts for a short part of the day before I have to take them out. So I quit wearing the contacts).
However, at one point we tried changing my contacts to the semi soft ones? anyway they're much much smaller than regular contacts. I couldn't wear them, becuase they kept shifting around on my eye and I could see the bottom of the contact.
I loved my contacts. The glasses adjusting thing goes away over time. I didn't have any bluriness.
However, I've changed glasess style before and had them bother my eyes becuase the distance from my eye to the glasses was different with the style of frame. It took me several days to get used to the new glasses style, I would keep getting headaches and my vision would be slighlty blurry becuase I was trying to adjust to the new distance.
You don't want to wear contacts longer than recommended, you don't want lipid build up on your upper eyelids.
