Bottled water

I noticed the new poll was about treating water. You dont need to treat bottled water right? Silly question with an obvious answer I'll bet, but I just wanted to make sure...

I must have missed that poll:eek: .I use normal everyday water that i allow to set in gallon a jug for 24hrs before i use it.I have never heard of anyone treating the water.Now off to find that poll :D

To tell you the truth unless you have some very bad water come out of your faucet.I have never known anyone to have any problems using tap water for there snakes to drink.Next time you go buy the bottled water keep track on how much money you spend in a month.If it adds up to a large amount of money per month,start saving it to spend on more snakes instead of bottled water :D :cool: .Of course its your choice,i am just being goofy:rolleye2:

nah, you're help is appreciated :D i actually dont buy the water my mom does and i always take a few bottles to my room :P

Tap water is cheaper and more envirnomentally friendly.

Bottled water isnt nearly as safe as it is made out to be. In fact, muncipal tap water is usually much safer because it faces much tougher standards and quality control tests. Well water now that might be a different story.

A teacher I work with uses the following case study in an environmental studies class at our school.

Now I'm not saying dont drink bottled water.......Relatively speaking it probably is much healthier for you than say drinking a bottle of coke. And it is often convienent for car trips.

And for a snake I always use tap water.

Everyhing i have read says you should use a dechlorinator. If you have well water you shouldnt have to worry about it. The theory is that we are bigger and better able to adapt to the chlorine in our water and the snakes being smaller the chlorine may affect them in a bad way??? I am not sure though. Until I had the BP's I never used it and My Burm (George) and Red Tails didnt seem affected by it. Now I just use a simple filtering system and let it sit till room temp.

Rick,i am not calling you a lier here.Where did you read this about the chlorine in our water being possibly bad for snakes? I have had snakes for 9yrs and i know others that have 20+yrs and we all use the tap water will no ill affects.

Unless you have some unsafe water that is drawn from a well.....I see no need to use bottled water.

Bottled water is no better than your tap water.....that was one thing I took away from college. The EPA regulations on water distributed by urban systems would blow you mind. Constant tests(at minimum once per day) must be run to insure that quality water is getting to the public. If cities fail these tests, they must pay tens of thousands of dollars in fines and issue notices to the general public. Water that 'smells funny' or 'does not taste good' doe not make it bad.....it just means that you have a little extra iron and/or other minerals in it. LOL...yep minerals taste ;) Also, if you are worrying about chlorine, the majority of water treatment faculitys now have declorinators due to the studys that have shown excess chlorine in water can be harmful to humans....so no need to worry about that.

This is very interesting stuff for someone that likes to know where the water they drink comes from and how it is treated. So look over www.epa.gov and you could learn alot ;)

Also, call your local government if you have questions about your specific water supply. They MUST give you information if you request it...that is the law and usually they are very friendly people ;)

i would give any of my pet only the same water that i would be willing to drink myself. depending on where you live and where you water source comes from would be my deciding factor. here where i live i would rather not drink any water then drink water from the faucet. i would feel like a bad owner by giving them tap water. but this is just my opinion. :)

I also heard that the process that bottle water oes through actually removes some of the minerals that we and the snakes need. I do not know if that is coreect though.

I don't know if it is essential minerals. But it does remove some minerals, since minerals are generally what give water its 'flavor' :)

Like I said, usually the water company has information booklets that you can pick up to find out all about your water....where it comes from, how it is treated, what standards it meets....Personally, I like to know that kinda information. So I just want everyone to be aware that it is out there ;)

I just find it hard to buy bottled water most of the time. Especially when bottled water (the most abundant resource on the planet) is sold at stores for $1.50 per 20 fl. oz ($9.60/gallon) and gas(a limited resource) is sold for $0.50 per 20 fl($3.11/gallon). oz. ........just something to think about next time you pick up a bottled water at the gas station then complain about the price of gas :D

i use bottle water for the snakes, although my dog gets tap water... weird.

In some cases bottled water is tap water.

Daniel,you have just made the million dollar winning statement! I keep telling my wife she is crazy for paying for bottled water,when its the same water that comes out of the faucet:mad: .A short time back a freind of mine worked at one of the "big named" water bottlers.He told us how they bottle the same water we get at home and make big bucks.Think about this,in order for them to sell "spring water" like they say it is.They would have to be either right next to a mountain stream or have a multi billion gallon water truck making constant trips to the mountain and back to the factory :eek: .Last time i looked Illinois does not have either of these:P .

My dad says the same ything to my mom. But we do use the bottles. My mom is a teacher and she brings them to work, and when we are dgoing somewerre we will grab a bottle. ETC. Ui use bottle water for our snakes. Causre its easy to get at room temp. And if i dont use that i get the filtered water from the fridge!!:carrot:

I use distilled water that I buy in gallon jugs for .66cents a gallon. I use about two gallons a week. $1.32 a week for peace of mind isn't bad in my opinion. I was using spring water, but most of that is just local tap water...so I switched. That was .39cents a gallon at walmart, so I doubled my weekly spending on that one. Oh well, what's a $1.32 a week anyways?
