This is my new little het female. I don't have a picture of the male, but he has similar banding on his back third. I can't wait for her to grow up!

For a hatchling, maybe $1200. Depends on gender and who's selling it.

$1600-$1800+ from a reputable, known breeder. Personally I consider that a little low since it's hard to even find albino's from good breeders. Typically they disappear shortly after the breeding season is over.

$1200 is extremely low and I would question the quality of an albino being sold that low.

Aside from eating well and gaining weight, how does one evaluate the quality of an albino? What do you look for?

Chris, thank you for not posting photo shopped pics.,I have seen way to many shopped pics. and they dont give the true look of the sudject. :)

I also will not enter the discussion of albino prices and the quality available.
its not right saying that because an albino is priced lower, that it is of inferior quality!

i don't know about inferior quality, but camlon reptiles had het pairs for under 500 , and they said it was because they had too many? i don't know...

Is this an inappropriate question? My intent is not to bait, or to provoke criticism of one breeder vs. another, but to improve my understanding, thus allowing me to make better decisions as I continue to acquire stock over the next few years.

Is it impossible to speak objectively of the different traits you seek out or avoid without invoking certain names?

Actually, I dont find anything wrong with your question, I actually think it's a good one ;).....are you asking what to look for as far as health and whether its a quality animal? or are you asking what traits to look for in a neonate Albino, that will translate into a real nice adult specimen?

I'm browsing through zillions of hets so I can make my own albino....so I spend a lot of time looking at the albino parents of these hets, and there seems to be a wide range of shades and patterns. How do you choose one over another? Is it just personal preference, or are there certain indicators one should be aware of? Also, I've been acquiring normal females who are reduced and/or banded because I very much prefer those, but also looking at ones who are more yellow than brown, because it seemed like those would produce brighter offspring. Is this the correct train of thought?

I would want to see pics of the parents before buying a het; but then again I want to see parents of anything I buy :) Just go with what you like best; I prefer the nice, clear-cut albinos with a lot of white.

High contrast for the win! One of my hets came from a nice looking high contrast albino.

Someday I will have an albino! (I've been saying that for years!). Since I probably won't be able to afford one outright anytime soon producing my own will make that day all the more uplifting :) My pair is only about a year old so I've got lots of time yet.
