Loose super tiny corn in basement - HELP!
I am watching my younger brothers corn snake until he can convince my parents to let it live in their house. I have a ball python, but I don’t know much about corns in particular. This is a very young, very tiny corn snake, maybe 3-4 weeks old at most. Well, last night my brother may have justified my parent’s decision to not allow him to have the snake in their house as he set it down on the ottoman in my finished and carpeted basement and forgot about it until it was too late. He had fallen off of the ottoman and slithered off someplace where we couldn’t find him even after 15-20 minutes of meticulous searching. My main concern is that he managed to get behind the walls in our basement as there are a few spots he could definitely fit into. On top of that we have our laundry room connected to the main basement and only separated by an accordion wall that doesn’t meet the ground – so he could go in there at any time. The snake is probably only 5-6 inches long and maybe a tick more than an 1/8th of an inch thick. Any suggestions?!?! We’ve fed him a pinky twice and his next feeding was coming up on Saturday. Any information will be helpful – I don’t even know where to start. I tried searching for similar threads on corns, but all I could find were threads on BP’s getting loose.
:O Argh!! Younger brothers can be such a PAIN!
Thanks!!!

The only advice i can give you is place flour on the floor along the wall.If he is still around that area he will leave slither tracks. To be honest with ya i doubt you will find him since he is so small :( .Not trying to upset you here just going by my experiance. In the 4yrs we have lived in our house i have had two corn snakes escape. One was around 3yrs ago and the other was a short time back, neither has been found :( .Let us know if you do find him.

I have a carpeted basement that has a fairly large perimeter, so I don’t know how well that technique will work for me. Thank you for the advice and words of hope though. I urged him to get a BP, but he went with the corn snake instead. I’ve already all but written him off as gone for good, but we’ll just have to see.
Thanks again!!:D

Yea the carpet does create a problem :( .Well you might find him if you set in your basement and be real quiet he just might come out of his hiding place.

Well, I may just set up a mini-cage environment in one corner and see if he comes to hang out. Our basement is pretty busy after 5 until bedtime as that is our livingroom, but just maybe we can coax him back into captivity. I may even put a pinky under the heat lamp next to the water bowl to see if that helps.
I'll keep checking this thread in the mean time, and let you know if I find the little turd.
GO CARDINALS!!!!!:partyon:

Have you had any luck yet?:(
Re: Loose super tiny corn in basement - HELP!
Yes, just this weekend we found the snake AND the Cards won the World Series! Needless to say, I had plenty of luck in the house this weekend!!
Then I woke up this morning and found the corn in the hallway. Time for new cage lid as my brothers is slightly warped...
Thank you for your help and support!!!
Re: Loose super tiny corn in basement - HELP!
CONGRATS!!! When I was younger we had several corns get out and never found...similar situation with my Kenyan Sand Boa at college...but I found him a week later on the floor. Such a good feeling isn't it?
Re: Loose super tiny corn in basement - HELP!
Try making a lid out of peg board, its durable and keeps the critters From getting out of thier cages, heck sometimes I even have trouble getting in !
But Seriously, cut it to shape and put it on, its worked out really well for me !
Re: Loose super tiny corn in basement - HELP!
i to lost my new corn snake last year, i have a two story house with a basement. the snake was kept on the second floor, an hour after i look at it one night it was gone. i tore the second floor a part not thinking it would go down stairs. what i did was put pinkys in a cotainer with a small opening with air holes in it, heat lamps in a corner of two rooms up stairs and use the powder going across the doorways, you will be able to notice if it goes thru it. also used plastic bags under empty water bottles with the pinkies so if it ate i would here it going over them. well all was for not because i found it in the basement. it headed right down the steps cause an hour after i check on it i did all that. those suckers move quick. just keep looking they can survive for a while... don't give up.:)
