size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
okay, so i've been everywhere looking for sterilite 1960s and let me tell you all... i cannot find them in canada. so... would this one work?
the 1895 model - 39 5/8" L x 20 1/2" W x 7" H - 67 qt wheeled underbed latch box
i realize the 1960 is 41 qt and 34 3/4"L x 16 1/2"W x 6"H but since i can't get it... would the 1895 be okay to use?
my hubby is getting ready to build my rack system... but we need to get the containers first so we can build it around them. :carrot:
the only other one i can find is the 1886 is 35 qt - 24 1/2”L x 17 3/4”W x 7 1/8”H but that seems way to small to me.
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
I'm too lazy to go try to find a pic of the 1895 on the web, but I think the wheel wells protrude into the tub? Any irregularities in the interior surface makes cleaning more difficult. pros/cons of the wheels - pro- It would seem that it would make the tubs slide in/out of the rack easier. con- If its TOO easy, and the rack isn't level, vibrations (snake movement, walking by if you have wood floors) might allow the tub to roll out of the rack on its own? Guess you could set up a pin lock to prevent that though. Are you planning on open top, or are you using the tub lid? If open top, make sure the top is even over the entire surface... no bumps or dips where the flip top hinges. The only other consideration that I can think of is to use a tub that the mfr is not likely to change the design on, in case you need to replace tubs later on. To me, a tub with more features, wheels and flip top, is more likely to change.
No Targets up there? Target is where I got my 1960s. Another thought... Can you order online from Target? Don't know what shipping would cost, but I know they have online ordering available on their website.
Just some random thoughts. I hope they're helpful!
Steve

Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
Sterilite is a thin cheap plastic, the iris boxes would be a better choice. try this lady out. :)

Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
But if its the Sterilite 1960 you really really want...you should be able to get them, we have them at walmart here in Ontario.... just tell them you want some brought in from a different store, because you know that other walmart locations carry them, I do this all the time for other stuff (mostly kids toys and things)
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
okay so... cb 110 should be good for my two boas and cb 70 would be excellent for my balls right?
so... 2 cb 110 and 10 cb 70 should make a nice size rack or would that be too high (having the cb 70s - 2 on a shelf)
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
Aleesha, with me you have about a 50/50 chance of one of my links working. if you have big females go with the cb 70 boxes. nice and roomy and plenty of length for thermoregulation. :)

that's what i tried to do... and i can't get anyone to call me back. i went in - but they just take a message and that's it. i don't actually get to speak to a person in charge and i really want to get the enclosures so my hubby can get the rack built before adam sends me "stuff" :whisper: :giggle: and since my hubby is a procrastinator... i know i need to give him plenty of time to do this. (also he does his work in the unheated garage... so in all fairness... i don't want to ask him to go in there in the coldest time of the year...)

well they aren't big now... but they will be after i feed and love them for a few years! my male is a nice size right now though and he'll be moving into that rack once it's done.
(getting very very excited)
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
so is there no canadian distributors of these tubs? cb 70 and cb 110
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
You would more than likely have a better experience dealing with an american. :)
Re: size of enclosure - will this work in a rack?
If you have a choice, I would go with the CB-70's because they seem sturdier. that being said I used the 1960's because the Melamine I had left over was 16" and the CB-70's were too wide.
BTW, Lynn at boasandballs is really nice, I get my rats from her. In fact I am making a trip to her place this weekend.
