New babies are here!!!! (DUW)
My 3 v. storri just arrived. There was a hold up with the shipping for some reason so they did not arrive until 1:30 pm instead of the 10:30 am expected arrival. No problems though, they were packed great and are all doing well.
Here are some pictures I took just before they darted into some hides in their new enclosure.

The time will come for more pictures ;) But not now.....don't want these guys to get cannablistic on me so I am leaving them be :)
Storri are hard to sex....so I just bought 0.0.3 babies figuring I would end up with at least 1.1 in the end... so we can just hope for now ;)

Total length(from tip of nose to tip of tail) usually ends up at around 12" but some can get up to 17".
Here is a picture of their daddy courtesy of Tom Sundin.

I have not witnessed them eat yet; however, I only dropped in a few crix. They appeared to be terrified when they arrived and Tom told me that they probably will not even start to come out until one or two days. When you asked me about the stuck shed on the tail, you made me doubt myself on my 'arrival check' so I tried to get them out of the stack....no luck. They are crammed so tight into the stack that I could not budge them with my fingers. They are all tucked away in their stack right now...hopefully they can get out if they need to ;)
The dirt is a mixture of topsoil, sand, vermiculite, and peat moss.
Re: New babies are here!!!! (DUW)
let me know how that dirt mixture works out. it looks like it needs to be moistened and pressed down a little.
Daniel, that tail does look like it is bein constricted. definitely check that hatchling to be sure it doesnt look like that in reality. i dont think a picture could make that illusion.
did you nail the stack together? i only nail the boards to the "runnings" so i can easily remove them to get to the monitor if i need to. i know Mark Bayless has said they can get stuck in the stack and die but im not sure if this is true, or else every crevice dwelling monitor would be dieing inbetween rocks all the time in the wild.

you can but either way is fine.

for the price you'd be better off getting atleast a pair to breed. storri are pretty expensive to be a "pet".
Re: New babies are here!!!!
Looks cute from the back end:D How about a face shot:P
Oops honest I'm not a blond just didn't see all the pics:eek: LOL

I know, but so are green tree monitors.... and I ONLY want ONE for a PET.
I do understand what you are getting at though ;)....
I do realise many of you may think me odd because I am willing to spend big dollar amounts for single animals for pets only.... but really, its not that bad a thing and for someone like me who does not want to breed, but may want a certain species just for a pet, it would still be worth it to me, I do not feel I need the monitary return on such a pricey pet, I get the "other" kind of return which is more valuable to me over a long period of time..... I choose the species I choose, not by price, not by poss. monitary return.... I choose them for my ability to care for them properly (for thier sake) and for the enjoyment I get out of being priveledged enough to share my space with something so unique and interesting and the interactions with them, realising that some species, are "only to look at" or "display", however, the joy would still be there.
Honestly, it was no different than when I paid $1000.00 for a saint bernard pup, who cost me over $9000.00 in medical bills within the first 8 months of his life.... yes, you read it right..... a st. bernard over $10,000.00- why did I do it, because I loved the dog and he was worth it to me.
Re: New babies are here!!!!
man, Jeanne. i like how you roll. thats cool. i guess im the same way. i paid $230 for a "pet" ackie (although no monitor is really a "pet"). my own money too, and 230 buckeroos are hard too come by when you're 13. i would love to get a second one though.
Re: New babies are here!!!! (DUW)
I'm with you all the way, Jeanne. I got my sav and here in UK like in US they cost very little (I didn't buy him, I kind of adopted him, but that's another story). And there's no expense I would spare to give him the best housing, best food and vet care and everything he needs. For what I spend on pet insurance, food etc - plus THAT ENORMOUS VIV IN PROGRESS - I could probably get 100xSavs!! But I love him (and all my other pets) for what they are. Just last year I spent some £300+ ($400+ ??) on vet bills for a rescue cornsnake - but that's me :/ - I love everything that ends up in this house. Sadly the cornsnake didn't make it :( R.I.P.
