2500+ gram Female
So I ended up getting my female over the weekend. When I went to go check it out it had been with a male in a 55gal locking up. The guy that I bought it from said it had laid 9 egg a month and a half ago. I was kinda curiouse as to why it would be locking up again but ok... He showed me the eggs that it laid and pictures of her when she was on them before he took the eggs out. While holding the snake the picture definetly identified the snake to be the same snake. When looking at the actually clutch all of the eggs seemed good. they were slightly dimpled but from what I understand that is normal? anyhow...I ended up buying the snake due to it's incredible size and girth. He did probe it in front of me and I felt the probe for my self to kinda see for my self that it was a female. I didn't probe the snake I just felt it very gently being dead stopped only a few scales in. I also had him probe the male it was in with and the probe went almost to the end of the tail. Anyways, It's a beautiful snake and has very bright coloring for it's size and possible age. I ended up taking it home for $125.
p.s. There are no scars, bumps, kinks or anything as far as it's skin is concerned and I checked it's mouth and it is very clean as well.

OK i have a few concerns here.First this snake supposably dropped 9 eggs a month and a half ago and he had her with a male allready locked up? Somethings not right here! I have never heard of someone placing a "female" back with a male to breed again right after she dropped eggs! Just because you "felt" the probe stop shortly in does not guarentee its a female.Male adults have very strong muscles and can tighten up that area of which will give you a false reading. It does happen.I would take it to either a vet or someone who you totaly trust and have this snake probed.I say this because i smell something fishy here. Please make sure whomever reprobes it does know what they are doing.Keep us posted.

Re: 2500+ gram Female
O i did forget something.Just because he showed you a pic of her setting on some eggs does not mean she layed them.As a joke someone i know placed his male pastel on some eggs and emailed the pic to freinds as a joke:eek: .And $125 for a proven female of 2500 grams right before breeding season:rolleyes: .Once again i smell something fishy here.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
yeah i plan on having it probed again...for sure
I don't know why he would put it in with a male after it layed...I think maybe a lack of cages or to see if he could get more from her ( i don't agree with the thought)...I'm not sure... Either way it is a beautiful snake.
I am aware of the males being pretty strong with there junk though..
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
Ya I don't know...I'll have it probed again for sure by someone I trust but I am thinkin it is a female though...it's tail is real stubby and isn't at all long after the vent. Obviously not a sure way of telling but. I will have it probed to be sure. I will tell you though this thing is thick... definetly one of the largest if not THE largest ball python I have ever seen....

Not being rude here towards you.I would keep that snake totaly away from your collection of snakes. If he was short of space or trying to get more out of her i am wondering if this snake is to old to breed anymore:confused: .This has way to many red flags popping up:mad:

Wouldn't that potentially harm the eggs? would a male be as careful on top of the eggs as a female would. Just wondering because I don't know if a male would be as careful or gentle around them..
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
It's definetly not with any of my other snakes...I got it in my 55 and I got another 20long for one of my other females...
I understand where your coming from with the red flags believe me I do!
I just figure if it does lay and it ends up producing for me next year or ends up dropping another clutch suprising me I guess it was worth the purchase...
Only time will tell and I am aware of the possibilities...I decided to purchase the snake so I am aware of what could / could not be up with the snake.

Not if the snake was left on the eggs for a short time.To tell you the truth ball python eggs are very durable when compared to other eggs. Now i dont mean you can bounce them off of a wall or pickup and squeeze them.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
yeah, I just wasn't sure. But I definetly do it myself. Those prescious little suckers would be too valuable to me to play pranks with them laying other snakes on them. Only the female that layed them would be so lucky to be ontop
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
hmm 125 for a proven female? please get it probed by a pro and let us know. If it is a female, then you got a pretty good deal man.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
Thanks man I know. That's what i'm saying. Either way It's a gorgeous snake...I'll get pics posted on here soon! but yeah its a beauty as steve erwin would have said. (R.I.P. Steve) but yeah! I especially liked how bright it's brown was in it's pattern. I figured it would be awesome if my pastel is indeed a male and they get to link up next year!

A question. You say you have a pastel and your not sure of the sex:confused: I do not understand here

Re: 2500+ gram Female
yeah, I got a pastel at the tampa show...IT was labeld a male when i bought it but after popping it myself, a friend who's pretty good at it and bob over at the herp hobby shop over by my job no one saw any hemipenes. I had it probed as well ....it didn't go in but only a little at first and went in a little farther afterwards but bob didn't give me like a definet answer...He was sure it was a girl and at the end he was like i dunno I think you might have a girl but I'm gonig to say it's a male cuz it went in a little farther on that last probe. He said to come back 6 months later to probe again....I dunno I was gonig to have it probed by neil golli over the weekend but didn't have the time.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
I'm pretty sure it is a male...The guy I got it from Bob hammond said he got it from greg graziani and the he probed it (bob h. did) and it appeared to be a male. He said he was sure it was a male himself but that he could be wrong...I don't know...i just want to know for sure. I got the snake for $150, So if it is a female I got a good deal but....I'm thinking and actually hoping it is a male so I can breed it with my 4 other females next year

Re: 2500+ gram Female
I recently bought a large female too from a pet dealer (breeder/shop) that was "supposed" to be a proven breeder. I have still yet to get it probed by a pro and weigh it... but I got it for a deal! 60$ That guy I goto sells all his ball pythons at $60 a pop no matter the sex or the size.

Well I've never paid more than $150 for a bp and the time I did was for the pastel...$125 for the female...I am really confident that it is a female but I WILL have it probed by a pro within the next couple days..
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
my other yearly and females I paid $30-$40 for and those have been probed females. I got a year and a half old female the other day from a woman for free. Her boyfriend was afraid of snakes and made a deal with her that if she gets rid of the snake he'll get her a dog...She got her dog..

Is she coild around a heat rock??? Thats not your set up is it?? and BTW, where are her hids?? She is beautiful though!! :D
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
Looks like she put weight on fast after laying eggs only a month ago!
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
no it's just a regular rock placed on top of a thin layer of the coconut substrate.
There is a heatpad under it though but..I would never put an actual heat rock in there...no way

That is my setup. She has a hide on the other side (cool) and her water didn't quite make the pic but it's in there. That's inside of my 55gal

Re: 2500+ gram Female

Re: 2500+ gram Female
I wouldn't imagine too many people doing it either but it happened and I got a rediculously good deal. every snake I've bought was a good deal and price. I just sense alot of haters in here... Instead of somebody saying wow you got a good deal man...everyone just laughs, try's to bring some sort of negative notion about it or just straight up talks ish...(not everyone but atleast 3 quarters or more )
I've gotten some great information here and even though there have been times where people have very directly said what they have I have been positive the whole time...It's just sad.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
Where are the positive people at? you guys can say what you want. Your not going to make me mad or have any adverse effect on MY day but geez. Whatever happened to the idea of ball-pythons.net being a positive place to talk about BALL PYTHONS?
I just feel some hatred...Maybe even jealousy because of some prices that I get. If this thing ends up laying eggs for me next year you guys will hear about it and see pics as well. Ok sure you guys would never sell a female proven breeder for this price but geez I got one. So quit hating...

I'm just curiuose what Adam wanted to say so bad that he was worried about. Why don't you pm me adam or even email me ...

Why is it that when someone sees a healthy dose of skepticism, they label the person a "hater." I haven't seen anything hateful here....some "smart ass" stuff, sure....but nothing hateful.
It's just that 98% of the time, or more....when something seems too good to be true...it is. Something seems wrong or "off" about the deal...and folks here aren't distrusting YOU...they're just concerned that you may not have gotten what you were hoping for.

i am aggreeing with vaughn no sane person would sell a proven 2500 gram female unless they are unaware. that snake is highlylikely a male. also about a pastel greg knows how to pop/probe snakes and woulld never sell a female as a male to someone. that snake is a male or you are very lucky
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
No worries. Our largest female exceeds 3000g and we hope to get some eggs from her this season. She was "donated" because of an awful mite infestation and didnt look to be in very good shape - took some work and diligent husbandry but now she is massive, not a jerky nervous wreck and just a pleasant and impressive snake. People may not always present themselves in the most diplomatic fashion and sometimes even tongue-in-cheek remarks can come across the interweb sounding harsh.
Hope everything works out for you -and make sure you give dual hides - especially in a transparent enclosure like a tank (so they dont have to chose between security and thermoregulation).
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
well I understand what you saying and i don't mean literal hate... But why such smart ass remarks... and seriously I do wish to hear what adam had to say. If he had so much on his mind why won't he just say it to me PM, Email whatever...
I understand everybody's concern but I was aware of the possibilities when I bought it. You guys didn't buy it or sell it so why is it so important for the smart ass remarks from others?
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
If you don't want people's .02, then don't post up these types of deals or give all the details you have.
Now, it would be really dumb, in my opinion, to write off the comments of people with many many years experience breeding ball pythons as talking "ish" just because you got a good deal. To look at them as just "haters" it really brings to light your lack of experience with ball pythons. We are not hating on you, we hate when people misrepresent animals and rip people like you off.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
as far as the pastel is concerned. Bob hammond bought a bunch of pastels from greg. Sold some and had some left over...he even told me himself it might be a female...But he was pretty sure it was a male...but he said he could be wrong. so who knows. I'm not mad, Pet stores aren't always breeders as well. And the people I bought it from really didn't know the value of ball's or even some other snakes ...They didn't have anything in there near the actual value of the animals in the store...
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
to be honost though... I see where you are coming from with what you said as far as people trying to sell things as something else...I do honostly.
But it's when anytime a price is mentioned in one of my threads it's the same
5-10 guys that feel the need to post in such smart ass responses almost to be harrassing. They don't like others posting about these deals as it may give others the idea to shop around for similar deals.
The only people that respond in a negative tone are the breeders themselves on here. Such as Adam and a couple others because THEY wouldn't sell an animal at such a price. The guy I bought the snake from needed the money for other breeding projects so to him he just wanted the money to invest in other snakes.
-
Re: 2500+ gram Female
But like I said. I'm not upset and i understand where you guys are coming from believe me. And out of respect to you guys I will not release the price of any snakes that i buy in the future. I will just post pics of them. And as far as a second hide for my large female I was planning on getting one today as well as food for my snakes.

Re: 2500+ gram Female
Look tinkle, I was just trying to help ... you seem to be soooo ate up with breeding and how many girls you can get and how cheap you can get them for that you're not listening to some very solid advice that is being give by lots of people on this message board ... it's more polite for someone to say "that might not be the best deal in the world for someone just getting started" instead of "you're a kid that's wet behind the ears getting taken by one of the many scammers that exist in this business" .... read between the lines slurpie.
Ever see the movie "Colors"? ... There's a great joke in that movie that you resemble ...
An old bull and a young bull were looking over a meadow full of cows. The young bull said "hey, lets run down there a screw a couple of those cows." The older bull looked at the younger bull, smiled, and said "no son, lets walk down there and screw them all."
To be successful breeding ball pythons, you have to think of it as a marathon, not a race ... burn yourself out today on all of these "great deals" and there will be no tomorrow. There are people here that want you to be successful ... that have been where you are, made the mistakes that you're going to make and that want to help ... you do what you want with that.
Cause hey, what do I know right?
Good luck with that 9 egger!
