I played for the mighty PRJH Warriors and PRHS Rebels.....6 years.

I played O-line......nothing like being a pulling guard on a sweep and getting to light someone's world on fire...

I can share all the battle stories...I started varsity my sophomore year....made all-district guard my junior and senior years of high school....

...I would go through High School again just to play another game :)

You can't beat the good times and lessons that playing football can teach you. Some of the guys that I played football with are like brothers to me. And it is hard at times....but getting though hard times and learning to 'man up' and do what you have to do so that the team can succeed is a great thing for people to experience.....

...and did I forget to mention Cheerleaders? :devilish: :D

There is no comparison between real football and so called American Handball (aka football). American handball was created for americans who liked rugby but didn't like to play it because it was to rough for them. So they came up with the great idea of gearing themselves up as if they were going to be used as crash test dummies, changed the rules and the format of the game and then claimed they had invented this great new game called American Football. Real football is the biggest sport in the world and shall never be replaced. I hope i haven't offended any NFL fans but soccer is the sport and i will defend it vehemently :taz:

I think the problem is that most people outside of the US have only seen american football on TV.....but never have actually played the game. Comparing Football to soccer, football to rugby, etc. is not really a good comparsion. Having played all three....I can tell you they are completely different in terms of physical demands, 'toughness', and actual game rules.

....and of course we have to 'gear up' to play american football....I have dislocated both shoulders, broken an arm, had a chunk of my eye taken out, dislocated fingers, and countless other injuries...WITH GEAR ;) I could only imagine the amount pain that could be inflicted upon someone if they let us crazy Americans play without padded protection(and we would if the rules allowed it) :P Rugby tougher than Football....LMAO....guess you have never played American football :D

Soccer and Football are both great games.....like apples and oranges in my book...like comparing baseball and basketball....no need to compare because they are completely different games :)

    Re: Football players?
Yes but we can compare football (aka soccer) to American 'Football'. History tells us that american football was a branch off of rugby and rugby was a branch off of football (soccer). Now i'm not saying that american football is bad but when it takes 3-4 hours to complete a game that is scheduled for sixty minutes, has countless commercial breaks, even more stoppages and the only real skill needed is speed and brutality you find it hard to become enthralled and captivated by what you witness. The school i used to attend tried to introduce American football but we quickly got bored with it and went back to playing football. To me American Football seems to be driven by the media, how else do you explain the infinite amount of comm breaks you have to sit through. Well thats enough ranting from me,

    Good luck

    Re: Football players?
I hate to tell ya bro, american football is a LOT rougher than rugby. And yes, I have competitvely played both. If rugby players hit as hard as american football players, then there would be an injury almost every hit. You have to remember also, that american football players try to find as many loopholes as possible to wear as little padding as they can. I never once got a single injury, not even a finger jam playing rugby, however in american football I broke my back, tore muscles in my lower back 3 times, had 5 concussions, and two herniated discs. Those are just the major injuries, excluding broken fingers and whatnot.

I agree though, you can trying to compare two sports that should never be compared honestly. American football is mainly for fueling the human need for bloodsport, where your football just wasn't as violent.

There is as much skill needed to play american football well as their is to play football well. I know you disagree, but keep in mind what you are most used to watching is a pretty pathetic display of american football. NFL football players have to be strong, fast, aware, intelligent, and superb hand-eye coordination. I know you made sure and comment on the brutality, but you have to remember, on the whole, Europeans like their sports much more brutal.
