    Burms + Human = Mmmyum.
So, I was watching one of those Animal Police shows on Animal Planet last night.. and this lady called in about a snakey in her bathroom. Turns out it was a Burmese. The animal policeman said something along the lines of "That's a Burmese python! Good thing she called, those have been known to eat people!"

.. I thought retics were the only recorded people eaters?

I read once when i was researching my snake that a free raoming burm had strangled a 14 year old child somewhere in Colorado, not eaten but fatal. :(

I read that article. Yeah, the animal was not kept in a cage of any type and allowed to "free roam" in this kids bedroom. The snake had not been fed recently and constricted the kid.

The humans in the story were dumb on two parts: 1) keep the animal in a cage, yo and 2) feed your pet regularly. =P

Back to which species supposedly eat humans...there's hella lot more "stories" and myths about man-eating snakes than true and verified events. The physicology of a large python eating an adult human is pretty hard to fathom; with a human laying on the stomach or back, it would be pretty impossible for even a very large snake to get the mouth around the shoulders, as opposed if the human was laying on the side, the snake's jaw could drop low enough to engulf the shoulders.

Anywho, it's pretty far fetched...and most "stories" have been easily disproven. =)

I saw a rock python eat a gazelle horns and all on animal planet once so I guess it would be possible for a very large constrictor to eat a human, a small person at least. I don't think it would be very likely that it would though. Anyways all of these attacks are the fault of us humans not doing something correctly so the snakes should not be thought badly of just for being an animal.

couldn't a yellow anaconda eat people? my hubby remembers a documented case of one tracking a person. he says they've been known to hunt people.

also a rock python like jack mentioned and a burmese would be large enough as well. he doesn't know if they have... but they would be capapble of it.

if a conda could do it i would say it would be a green and not a yellow. Yellows are much smaller generally.

there are pictures on the net of people cutting open large snakes and inside was a half digested person. im not sure if they're real or not but it's very possible that there are cases of snakes eating humans.

The photos from that websdite I guess we can't name (which to be fair is pretty despicable!) have been snoped:

The verdict - real snake in first two shots, faked 3rd.

Those photos have been around for a while and just keep on giving a bad name to snakes. Also, I believe thats an afrock, not a burm.

I recall seeing a show on t.v. of a retic trying to consume a human. I don't recall where or when it was, but a "park ranger" of some sort discovered the snake attempting to consume the human. I think the person was missing so he was searching. Again the person was laying face down so the snake couldn't get around the shoulders. It shows a video or photos can't recall. I believe it was on discovery channel or animal planet. Anyone else see this?

There was wild life show that kept having the camera drop low to the grass and chase a lady around, as they were telling the chilling story how this lady was hunted by one....

You can take very little of what you see on TV literally.

Most snakes even very large would have trouble eating an adult human. Green Anacondas are the only recorded to have actually eaten humans that I know of. I've heard of burms, retics, and afrocks killing people aswell but not eating them.
